AHM Use - No Radar

I've found that with Active Homing AAMs I can get good shooting solutions using purely passive means. This means I can flank inbound fighters, get outside their radar arc and hit them without exposing myself to counter fire by exposing my position via radar use. Very handy against those long range Alamo C's when using AIM-120A/Bs or AA-12s.

It's not without risk as I have lost a precise location on the target during the missiles ingress and had them activate off-target and completely miss!

While fun I feel that this is beyond the capabilities of most fighters. I don't know of any AAMs that allow for a purely passive launch, though there were some anti-AWACS missiles bandied about at one time. CEC would allow for mid-course updates from an off-board source but that's usually a distant ship or AEW radar, not a ESM source.

This being said does HCE model Low Probability of Detection radars?

Simple reason being that the HCE does not model target cueing for active radar homing missiles.

No.

My previous post was not meant as a criticism, just an observation. In fact it's realistic that target cueing like SARH is not needed for AHMs. All that's need is the target a/c in the basket when the missile goes active. Just letting folks know what their options are and how it coincides/conflicts with reality!

I think LP Radars would be great someday, btw!

Oh, I know, and for my part, just reciting the facts. [;)] I too think LPI radar implementation would be great, but I have some idea of the limitations of the code. Believe me, it is a little painful to create LPI radars in the database knowing that their full capabilities cannot be presently modeled as I would like.
