Dark Graphics Foreground (symbols & text)

Hi,
I use the excellent NATO symbols mod for the unit counters. When I try to use a dark color for the symbol/text (for use on a light background color), I get a white "rim" around the text. Doesn't look good and makes the symbols/text difficult to read. Is there a way to fix this?
