I want to just add 1 or 2 new units to the master file. Is there a way to do this or do I need to create my own master file?

You have to disconnect the masterfile to add units so you are now making your own masterfile.

Best way to do it is to copy the masterfile and rename the copy. If your going to keep everything and just add a couple.

To add a unit there are at least 3 areas you have to work in the editor. SFType, Item and research come to mind off the top of my head. If your going to give the units special movement then you have to create the movement rules in a separate section of the editor.
