Can't load saved games

I just patched FOF and now it won't let me open my saved games. It says "incompatable saved game file or version". Is there a work around? I have been patching regularly without problem until now.

Saves based on the last major update 1.9.23 aren't compatible with the latest official update. Whereas if the save was one of the recent betas it should be.

The development team on multiple occasions over the past several weeks has written that the then-beta patch would break save files started with 1.9.23. But in retrospect, this information should also have been added to the thread announcing the release of the gold version of the patch. I hope this hasn't caused too much inconvenience.
