Space Invaders?

I was watching a series on the Discovery Channel of how video gaming was born out of defense engineers blowing off steam in the research labs with early chips and oscilliscopes.
Well, one of the early 1970s video game models was Space Invaders. A series of approaching threats rapidly getting closer as you shoot them down.
Interestingly, Harpoon with inbound missiles very much has the Space Invaders feel as the enemy missiles slowly creep closer as they saturate your defensive missiles.
Anyone else see the Space Invader analogy in this defense/wargame style simulation?
