WW3 scenarios (GDW style)

I remember some excellent computerized scenarios for TOAW2. Personally I think this engine would work even better for these type of games. I think the more streamlined system would make work better.
Anyone working on fictional WW3 styled scenarios?
Almost forgot. How about some Middle East themed scenarios(not Iraq but rather Arab/Israeli)?

I don´t know....but we will surely have modern scenarios. The engine seems to be compatible with them. Only thing is how to simulate helicopters

Yeah, I played a really good one for TOAW it was pretty much the entire continent of Europe and North Africa. I think it was designed by Trey Marshall?

I have in the work a scenario based on "the next war", of Spi, the map is ready, I am in the process of remaking all the graphics Soon a screenshot...

Awesome.
As for helicopters. Couldn't that be solved by some kind of airmobile capacity? I know very little of this game engine still but I hope it can be extended into modern scenarios as well. Airmobile units should be possible, at least in theory.
And yes, Trey Marshall designed those awesome scenarios. Worth getting TOAW3 for alone

.
Best of all would of course be if Matrixgames bought the rights to all GDW games hehe.

Couldn't you make Helicopters a SFT - transport aircraft exist, so possibly a variation on them combined with some features of vehicles (eg class as a vehicle but give the same cost for movement over all terrain so they can land anywhere)?

Sounds good to me.

-What feature makes air units able to land only in airbases and urban hexes?

I think the airbase (and urban, so long as they are marked as acting as airbase) only movement is a function of "air" movement. At least as I understand it.
I did note there is a "rotor" type movement group in the editor...but not sure what that is.
On the more transport-type helicopter--SMK's suggestion seems a good one. Essentially treat the helicopter as a truck which has the same movement over all terrain. This seems reasonable. The only downside seems to be that they would not be interceptable by other air units (nor would flak affect them).
I guess you could do attack-helicopters in essentially the same way--more or less a "flying tank", but (assuming no special helicopter movement rules), it'd probably make more sense to treat them like planes.

I had just random thoughts about a modern scenario and I couldn't figure one thing - how would you go about creating ICBMs? Can you make a unit that self-destructs after one attack (and does 2.5 bazillion damage)?

There is a setting in editor for a one-time use weapon.

There's no way (that I know of) to model the political consequences of using nuclear weapons. In a WW3 scenario, we'd deal with conventional warfare alone, as using one ICBM would technically trigger the release from the rest and BAM, there goes the planet.
Tactical nukes, however, might be a different story. They should be really expensive so to avoid their mass production, and, for example, they could destroy all units in a single hex. But still there would be a certain degree of political consequences.
What's more, you'd also have to model radiation, which'd harm most units passing through the nuked hex (and perhaps the surrounding ones) for the remainder of the game.
All in all, tricky business. [:'(]

the thing about nukes:
they're really not that expencive once you get the production up. realistic modern wars would have such poor gameplay. Nobody really knows what impact tactical nukes would have on the battlefield, but it has been assumed that such a war would be close to unfightable, perhaps one of the reasons tha war hasn't been fought yet

If they're ever included, they should be really expensive for balance purposes. That, or perhaps the only way to use them would be through action cards (which seems like a better option as the nukes would be pretty rare).
