How to easily re-size pics for uploading to the board

I see an awful lot of people messing up page formatting with oversized pictures.
There is an incredibly easy way to resize pics which does NOT involve using a paint program.
Microsoft has a set of small utilities for Windows XP, called Powertoys. They can be downloaded from
this page.
The one called
Image Resizer is what I'm referring to. Once downloaded (it's only 512 KB) and installed, it gives you the option of resizing an image file, like a jpg, by right-clicking on the file name, just as if you wanted to
copy or
cut the file.
This is very useful for posting otherwise oversized images to discussion boards, such as this one, or for emailing images.
I'm not sure what the largest width should be for posting to this board, but I would guess 600 pixels. In any case, 600 is large enough.

I tend to use photobucket, upload the pic to there and then simply cut and paste the URL....saves me stuffing around with resizing the pic.

Did you also check the file size and types allowed?

According to this FAQ (
faq.asp#2_3 ) there was no type or size specified. However originally I uploaded an 11Kb jpg (138 x 160) file and it was way too big. I tried over-writing it with 5 (125 x 145) and 3 (36 x 42) kb jpgs, which I've used elsewhere (Pidgin & Gtalk amongst others) before and since, and - as you can see, I am not doing something right [&:] I get no message on the upload which leads me to believe that the picture is on the server here someplace but I don't see any evidence thereof and am therefore doubtful. Now - If there is another FAQ somewhere - I'll be happy to read it/them. Thanks again! [&o]

Personally Id edit your preferences to "dont display an avatar" then close everything out relog onto the site and reupload a new avatar. Probably would use a simple name for the file though it really shouldn't matter and a small res/size like you were. Then you can always upgrade to a bigger one later.
