When It Was A Game doesn't compare. Ken Burns' Baseball is the quintessential examination of baseball and American culture. It is 18 hours of thought provoking documentary. It was the inspiration for a class I took at UMass in the 90's called Baseball in Modern America. If you love baseball you will watch it over and over again.

Its fantastic throttle.
You will learn so much about the history of baseball.
I just finished watching it again a couple of weeks ago.

Swing by your local public library. Thats where I first found it.
If that branch doesnt have it, they can have it sent over from another branch.

It is the greatest. My only dissapointment about a series like this, is that you cannot count on it being updated (I believe it was released in 1994 - so it is now 13 yrs old). And, secondly, I disliked the way they attempted to pack 2 decades into 1 CD (whereas the other CDs were each solely devoted to a single decade). Still I thought it well worth the price. Too bad it didn't cover the 'roid era tho.
