RHS Level 7 PWHEX file set re-revised

1) This pwhex set will work with ongoing games

2) This pwhex set will allow Bethel, Alaska to work as a port

3) This phhex set will allow Charter Towers to be more easily supplied - IF there are supplies at Townsville to feed it (they pretty much must come by sea - if you were going to air supply just dump directly on Charter Towers)

4) This pwhex set will allow interior river system vessels to leave the system - but NOT return - IF there is a connection to the sea. This means that units that can be made to appear at a port can be used for a while and then withdrawn.

5) This pwhex set has a new member: it contains upgraded rail lines. It should be used from 17 October 1943 (the date the Kwai River RR linked up). It features:

a) A Burma-Siam RR as a secondary rail line (upgraded from trail)

b) An upgraded Bengal and Assam RR as a primary rail line (upgraded from secondary)

c) An upgraded White Pass and Yukon RR as a primary rail line (upgraded from secondary)

d) An upgraded LOC on New Caledonia - which was operated by the US RR Service

A new naming convention is used:

we have pwhex.dat

STANDARDpwhex7.dat
PANAMApwhex7.dat
RAILROADpwhex7.dat

Any of the bottom three can be renamed as pwhex.dat

STANDARD returns you to the start of game situation.

IF the RR version is used, players should NOT use the Panama version after that - or they will lose the RR.

A few hexside eratta were fixed. The Arctic Ocean was cleared for use as far as Wrangle Island.

Sorry, but your final comments lost me..Which of the new Pwhex files do I need to add to an existing game (RHSCVO for ALL of the changes to take place?..Apparently whichever one I take needs to be renamed and placed in the folder??..Thank you..

Actually - the file set INCLUDES an ALREADY named pwhex.dat file which will work in all games before 17 October 1943.
Just copy that pwhex file to the top level WITP folder.

Keep all the files somewhere safe. I put them all in the top level WITP folder and also in a sub folder of the SCEN folder.

You ONLY rename a file IF you want something special:

a) You MIGHT rename PANAMApwhex7.dat = pwhex.dat IF Panama City has MORE than 90% port damage;

b) You MIGHT rename RAILROADpwhex7.dat = pwhex.dat on 17 October 1943 - or some other date - IF you want to - up to you.

c) IF you did (a) above AND IF Panama City has LESS than 10% port damage thereafter, you SHOULD rename STANDARDpwhex7.dat = pwhex.dat

(A) above will damage the Panama Canal AND reduce the rail lines to trail status in the Panama City hex

(B) above will give you the four railroad upgrades listed at the start of the thread.

(C) above will restore the Panama Canal and the rail line at Panama City. When the Canal is out, ships may not pass between Colon and Panama City - either way. When the RR is out - traffic FROM Panama City in ALL directions is reduced to a snail's pace.

There are 4 to 8 technical changes in the Level 7 pwhex files. The only significant impacts are that the Upper Mekong becomes able to drop small craft into the lower Mekong (in 2 cases), and that the Chittagong is able to exit to the sea (all 3 files).
Otherwise it is cleaning up a few hex side mismatches. Just dump these files on top of the previous issue - and insure pwhex.dat is in the top level WITP folder.
