Boy he really chopped some Matrixgames to pieces. Specially Forge of Freedom. Even I don't think FOF deserved these kinds of scores and comments. Let him have it guys.

Other than FoF, he didn't hammer much at all really; he certainly liked that Airborne Assault games as well as CaW.  According to his system 2 stars means
 
Has some good points, but it's just more of the same. Buy it if the genre or the era particularly appeal. Otherwise there are better games around.
 
..which is a little unfair on BoI, but not exactly chopping to pieces.  Dunno what all that 'seed score' stuff is about (including BiI), it just seems to mean "haven't played it enough to write a review yet".  Pretty pointless, really.
 
 

This guy plainly wants to glorify himself, rather than offer objective opinions. All too common in blogs. Look at me! Worthless.

I was surprised at 5 stars for CAW after all the boohooing and bellyaching about not enough scenarios. Perhaps he grades the games on what they do give instead of what consumers felt the game should have given. Kinda like the Battlefront game as well. Not many scenarios in it either. CAW is a classic though and even with what 7 scenarios it's worth it just because of its AI to me. I've always found CAW and Europe Ablaze exceptional games from SSG (Erik can you redo Europe Ablaze? ) vs their combat ground games. I just never got into that probe, attack, defend, recon sort of phases of their ground games. I wanted more Warlords type play and hands on in them. I played the dog out of Europe Ablaze and CAW back in the old days.

Although he gives my favorite operational game very good marks, I'm afraid that I must concur with KG Erwin, the reviews are worthless. A reviewer that can give a game like Distant Guns nothing but double lemons for each category shows that he has little interest in being a serious critic.

I noticed on another reviewer sight, the critic reviews about 18 games per month. I think that even a fairly bright guy needs more than a couple of days to properly learn a new game. These guys must really love themselves.

Mike's review of FOF does not reflect changes to FOF made in the major "omnibus" patch that came out back in late May (which is the patch he is referring to in his review). That patch made so many improvements in so many areas that I consider all reviews of FOF that are based on the previous version, whether good or bad, to be obsolete. (That's not a knock on the review itself, which holds a position that others also have held, and certainly isn't meant as a knock on the reviewer.)

DefCon is a fun game. No it isn´t hardcore war game but it is fun, especially multiperson multiplayer. One I´d liked to see fleshed out into something more.

Yep, I have no problem with Mike, though I do disagree with a few of his reviews (and agree with others). I've yet to find a reviewer that I agree with 100% though. [;)]

What does it help to give scores for games without giving reasons what they are based on? It certainly does not help any reader to get Mike's opinion when he is not able to defend it. Reviews are never and should never be objective but reviewers should give reasons how they reach their conclusions.

That was my first thought too when I checked this guys site. I gave it a quick scan before I read the articles and thought there is absolutely no way he could objectively review that many games in one month. As I read some, but not all the reviews, it became clear he didn't really delve into the games as deep as a "Game designer, reviewer and bon vivant" (clearly the last descriptor of himself reveals his pride)should.

Harpoon, CaW, et. al. are repubs of our old favorite classic games with some added new goodies; nothing more really. Mr. Kreuzer clearly missed that point and seems to expect a totally new game in the titles.

So, unless you're really bored, don't waste your time reading this gentleman's reviews; worthless actually.

Oh of course as a moderator I'm a different person. I only go after those that don't really add anything to the topic and just call other people names or attack them. [:D] As long as people are talking about the topic I have no problems with them. But, there are a COUPLE here that would get the AXE probably my first day. hehe

That would ruin it IMHO. In an odd way DefCon is like chess.. if it had any more it would be totally different and nowhere near as good.
