Guns on planes in HCE

Just curious, but will HCE allow for the "gun" weapon on aircraft in future patches. I know that in the game, there is not much use for them, but you could still down a few bombers, unarmed attack aircraft or slower missiles with them?

Hi steve as far as I know aircraft do have a gun capability, it is not shown in the weapons loadout screen, but somewhere in the small unit info box showing speed etc, it should say something like "gun ammo available" if the aircraft has gun capability in the database.

All aircraft loaded with an ATA loadout have built-in guns with a range of 3nm that will fire automatically if within range of enemy aircraft and helicopters.

ATA loadouts consist of the following in HCDB:
Intercept
Escort
Intercept-2

There are four more ATA mission slots available to those DB designers out there.

Each plane will have a maximum of four air to air bursts, fewer if there are > 63 planes in the airgroup. These built-in guns will not engage missiles, only other planes.

Yep, just had a big furball between Tomcats and Flankers.  Dang flankers won.  I need to find the ATA ratings!

ATA ratings are visible when you look at an aircraft entry in the HCDB database using the Platform Editor (PE).

I have not yet figured out how to look at that - I have a reader program that will open it, but what I see is confusing.  Maybe if I had access it'd make more sense.  Wish the editor worked in excel!
