In 20 months of play, 20 months at war with the Turks, and 20 months of a 10-ship privateer fleet targeting the Sultan, I have yet to see a single dubloon.
This HAS to be a bug.

You don't get any money, they just lose it. Privateers keep their booty and do not cost you for upkeep, as the manual says 'never trust a privateer.'

Then what does "Captured Gold" represent in the Eco summary screen?

If you are the British and you attack the Spanish Gold Convoy that comes in each September.

I can see where that line showing up for the other six players, can cause some confusion. In fact, there are other eye clutter clean ups to do regarding this sort of thing. For example, phase buttons that pertain to Britain only (e.g. 1/3 VP deduction) will also show up for the other players, even though they will not function for the other players.

I have been able to put GB pirates out harassing Russia and Spain. It came up on the saying they were whacking them for small amounts of cash. Taking 8 to 20 gold a year from Russia or Spain hurts them alot.
They never seemed to respond though.

When I first saw the title of this thread, I thought someone had cracked the copy-protection scheme (which I'm not even sure exists!)
Sometimes English can be a troublesome language, can't it?
