A little confused about PBEM files

I just did my diplomacy phase as France (I am first) and it generated a .pbm file at the end of my turn instead of a .sav. The manual said after setup we would be using .sav files [&:]
"The program will automatically save the game as TheGameName.sav whenever
the end current phase button is clicked." Manual, p.20

Murat:
When you end your turn, a turn file will have been created in the commout folder. This is what you send out. This file is only around 200-300K as opposed to the 12MEG saved game files. You should almost never have to send out a save game file unless you are the host and you are sending out a complete sync game set which is usually required when replacing a player.

That’s correct. The game automatically saves the game file (.sav extension) to your “save” folder but also generates your turn files (.pbm extension) when you finish your turn and click the end current phase button. You always load and work from your save game file in order to 1) load the other player’s turn files and; 2) create your own turn files. Turn files that you create will always be save to the commout folder (for you to send out). Turn files that are sent to you should always go in the commin folder.
