1939-1946 Trotsky's War

I am playing the modified version of Alternative World War, by Silvanski I think. It is turn 3. right now, I am trying to withdraw divisions from Prussia to bolster my line. It is two divisions per hex, behind the Odor River to give the Soviets attack penalties. Once the Poles and the men near the French border get through, they will provide support.

I also have an army or two in the major Prussian ports waiting to be shipped to Stettin.

Turn 4: Feel the wrath of the German battleships!

The lines solidify, and an army fron Prussia is now stationed in Berlin.

Image

Aftermath: They have 3 destroyers left. I have 2, due to the 1300 fighters the Soviets sent in...

My heavy naval unit is, luckily, unscathed.

Turn 6: The Soviets lost a brigade in attacking Breslau, which was garrisoned by an army HQ and hundreds of Polish and German bombers.

4 or 5 attacks were made on my lines, with 2 penetrations, Stettin and Liegnitz. Stettin was a disaster with massive losses, although in all the attacks combined, the Soviets lost at least 30000 men. I am planning on retaking Stettin.

Polish recons and air units are trapped in Poznan. I will try to break out.

Poles extended FOI a little.

Leignitz was captured with panzers against infantry, battalion losses.

Stettin was recaptured with 2500 losses with infantry attacking tanks.

An assault on the very edge of our Southern fronts, killed many Soviets who put me in a position to outflank them.

The Soviets seem to be concentrating their forces on Stettin, Gorlitz and Liegnitz, and Mahrisch-Ostrau.

Alright, the treaty between Paris and Berlin is signed. I am speeding an army to my Southern Flank, which is in danger of imminent collapse. They also brought up a tank corps, so the situation is very dangerous.

In other news, Memel was taken by the Soviets.

Turn 10, by the way.

Ive played the scenario until turn 25 or so. If I may make a comment:

The commies just keep coming and coming and coming and coming and...

Still Turn 10.

Doing a bit of flanking in the center. Foolish Elmer won't move his airforce at all, so the farther he goes, the less support he gets.

When I played the USSR, I once won by turn 40, and another time, I captured the Baltic Capitals Turn 30-something, and then half of all my forces were withdrawn, leaving gaping holes in the lines!

That was on the Alternative WW version, though.

I've played this one until turn 13. The Soviet follow up troops were just released, which was good since I had already encircled and destroyed 1/3 of the Soviet troops, encircled another 1/3 and about to encircle the remaining 1/3...the Soviets never captured Warsaw.

Turn 11

The Spanish have entered the war. They are pretty dumb, though. Who sends an army HQ to perform a beach landing in a city guarded by a division of infantry?

:O

How did you stop them from taking Warsaw...

Even if you pull back all the Poles there, it would be next to impossible.

Turn 11

A British Armrd. Corps will get ready to ship out next turn. Many air units have been appearing in Britain and France.

The Southern Flank has more men, though it is only enough to slow them. The rest of the West Wall units race to the front even now.

A single Iraqi division escapes to Syria.

Turn 12

Konigsberg and Danzig have fallen.

Stettin also fell, 2 divisions utterly destroyed, although the Soviets lost 4 times as many men.  They filled it to the limit with men, so I cannot possibly retake it.

Turn 12

I have a good solid line in the South now.

A small pocket, and an attempt at a pocket at Stettin, although it failed. Percentage-wise, they lost 13 times as much as I did, though.

French movements in Algeria(?) and souther France. British tanks ship to Egypt.

I see you're playing a variant?  Presumably not the one on the CD?  I am in the middle of this about T26 I think (doing about 1 turn/week due the time it takes elmer to run a turn!!) & stopped the Sovs at Warsaw for a long time, also at Danzig but they slipped through in teh south & took Bratislavia (I think)...anyway - my game seems quite different from this one - what is the variant and where can I get it?

Its Silvanski's (I think) variant of Alternative World War, he added garrisons, changed the formation orders so they would have yellow bars instead of orange, and some other stuff. I didn't see this on the CD though, all of them are from Game Depot and RD. How did you hold Warsaw exactly? I captured it on Turn 2 in the Alt. WW version.

The version included in patch 3.2. ..etc is the latest.
Because several events concerning activation are set on variable turn range you may or may not be able to keep Warsaw.

If you want the Elmer to be faster put caps lock on...speeds up things considerably.

I'm at turn 100 now.....hold the reds at a line from königsberg, warsaw, cracow..... then took out the spanish units.....stopped them in hungary and rumania and in the middle east near jerusalem...

then my counterattack started .... until now i liberated hungary, romania, finnland....the middle east, the caucasus and parts of southern poland....his complete front in south eastern europe is shattered... now i will put the new italian corps to this theater.....maybe one more year and elmer has to give up

Turn 14

Those sneaky SOBs sent an arty unit to Rostock and I didnt even notice until this turn, so now they have a NKVD garrison in Rostock! It is unsupplied, and will soon be destroyed by reservists.

This might be off topic, but does anyone know where I can get an mp3 of Wir sind des Geyers schwerer Haufen by Heino?
