City attack-fires

Hi-This game continues to amaze me at the depth of complexity it goes into.

OK, for the last 2 weeks I've been attacking HI in Nagasaki. HI has been reduced to (579)x21. I just noticed, however, there is a notation on the city screen "Fires 661".

I know that HI(as well as other assests) can only be destroyed by atomic attack or fire storm. So, what does this notation mean to me?

I need a frame of reference to fit "fires 661"into.

When(or how much fire) does it take to start a firestrom? I assume it varies city to city, but is there a ratio of some sort I don't know about? Any help is appreciated.

Also, is there a way to load my B-24s with incinderaries? If so, ,please, I need the a,b,c of it.

For your reference, time is 1/8/44. My objective is to win a decisive victory in 1944.

Another thought re assest destruction. If I invade Nagasaki, occupy it & hold it, I would think the HI, engine plants, etc. would be destroyed. If they are destroyed, do I get VPs for that destruction, or are those points included in the "value to Japan/value to Allies" point total?

Many thanks, Hugh Browne

It's a mystery to a lot of us. I don't know the answers to most of your questions, but I do know that there are no incendiaries to be had, which is sort of silly.

I tried testing some of the ICB devices in the DB once and they don't work; leftover stuff from Bombing the Reich.

hbrsvl: probably you should put questions like this in the War Room - this part of the forum is supposed to be for glitches, bugs, etc. You will probably get quicker responses, and it makes it easier for folks trying to find solutions to bugs, etc., if they don't have to sort through game play issue posts.

There are 3 threads dealing with strategic bombing, fire storms and the a-bomb in section II.D here:
tm.asp?m=1274014

Furthermore, you should read the 2 AARs written by Speedy and rupd3568. They are both experts in strategic bombing:
tm.asp?m=1110403
tm.asp?m=1037286

The consensus seems to be that creating a firestorm is nearly impossible, and not worth the trouble.

No problem... [8D]... but i know from experience how frustrating it is to try to locate a thread in the support forum (esp. since the search function doesn't work (shall we say) especially well. [X(] [:D]

As to, "what does 600 fires vs. 6000 fires mean" and "how many does it take"...  Not a lot of info.  The short comments are:

1.  Most folks (including myself), believe that it's best to just bomb the industry directly, and not bother hitting manpowere (thru fires).  You end up damaning industry more thru hitting it directly, than thru fires.
2.  I did a bit of testing a long time ago, fires go out at a rate of 90% phase (so 2x in a day).  So 100 fires beginning the turn will be down to 10 by noon, and and 1 by end of turn.  They go out -VERY- quickly.  It tough to really get them going, and KEEP them going (between the rate of decline, weather, morale and fatigue of your aircrews).  My guess is, this is backwards, that they should go out by 10% per phase (so 100 becomes 90 by noon, and 81 by evening), because otherwise it's nearly impossible to sustain any sort of conflaguration.
3.  But again, it's really unclear what 30,000 fires means (more is better, but other than that...?).
