Help with Flight Ops

Hello, everyone! I've had Starshatter for a little while now and have went through this forum several times as a non-member. Well, I decided to register to maybe get some help, and then help back a bit.
I have a problem commanding a carrier. Strangely enough I do believe I've become quite the Cruiser Ace. I have invested many long hours in this game and replayed the campaigns a few times, because they always end up differently for me.
When I command a carrier though, I can't seem to get a decent number of points. The best I've gotten was 1260. This was most likely from just launching and recovering fighters. I directed several wings of fighters, close to 15 different flight throughout mission 3 of Operation Nightfall. I ended up taking out 2 Vendetta Cruisers, a Broadsword Destroyer, and 12 enemy fighters, directing the battle from the f3 tactical view. All in all I only lost 3 F-38 attack fighters.
Imagine my dismay when all I received was 1260 measly point when I invested 2 hours in one of the greatest missions I've done in a carrier.
I tried getting my escorts, the courageous cruisers, and the 2 asher destroyers, to attack the remaining Dragon Carrier. They wouldn't budge from my side. I had scouted the whole sector plus had 2 flights of f-34 escorts plus, 2 f-38 on alert.
So I ask, why did I only receive 1260 points for this mission, and why couldn't I get my escorts to finish off the Marakan carrier group? Can anyone offer any insight? I would be greatly appreciative!
