I wonder why AT was not placed into the comparison?

Eh? I can see why AT isn't.
If AT gets in that comparison so does any game with a europe ww2 scenario.

A comparision with the TOAW3 scenario Europe Ablaze might have been in order though.
Too big for me but still.
Still hoping for a better version of Third Reich, WiF will likely be the closest we will get to that.

Hm but SC 2 and CEW are quite abstract too so AT should imho perfectly fit in that comparison too and win it.
I would rate AT 95-98%, CEW 85-90% and SC2 ~80%.
Also Hoi 2 and WAWAWD should be in such a comparison imho.

Interesting, I thought CEW did a fairly good job of Third Reich computerized. Although seems like you could also do AH's Third Reich justice with AT. doesnt one of the scenarios in AT(maybe the 1939 scenario?) do that? Haven't really played any of the big strategic sceanrio yet.
But I did do some playing with CEW (beta testing), Only reason I didn't buy was because my computer system specs were marginal.

With a better GUI the original computer Third Reich would have been really good.
It had decent AI in fact.
I know nothing of CEW but everyone says it's more like Panzer General. TR was a bit deeper than that.
Actually I enjoyed SPI/TSR.s WW2 best. Wonder why noone ever mentions that game?

I have to disagree with those who say CEW is more like PzGeneral -- the interface gives it that look, but it plays diferently.
In any event, I'd think AT could do a bang up job on Third Reich. I'm just not sure how well the AI could hold up.
I may have to give it a look.

Maybe because AT is a system that is not locked into WW2? I will see if I can find out more.

You know. One thing all those lacks. More than 2 players.
I would like something like SPI/AH.s game but with at least 3 players.
It would be much more fun if you could have one Allies, one Axis and one Soviet. More realistic
as well, the allied and soviet command were not exactly on best terms.
Obviously World in Flames will be the answer to all this

but in the meantime.
Pity that Matrixgames can't add "official" 3+ player support to TOAW3.
If anyone needs help with this. Just tell me. I need to check up on that Shogun thing but
I am interested in doing a Third Reich style WW2 with 3+ players. Even 5 perhaps with US/Italy being optional.

I wonder if we can persuade GJK to do the Third Reich tileset

.
Otherwise I woudl prefer the Blitzkrieg one. Closest.

Totally with you on that...it's what keeps me from buying that game...just can't get past it.

I got SC2 and never play it.
AT is a much better game IMO...

Going isometric tiles; was a MASSIVE step backwards. No matter how hard I tried, or how good the game mechanics are...iso stunk. Turned the game into civilization. Lost that wargame feel.

Well I really like Civ4 so maybe it's not always bad

.
I thought SC2 looked awful though.

I liked the civ series as well, but my point really was, that by moving SC closer to civ, it diminished the wargame feel/ experience of SC.

I really like the look and play of SC2 now with the WAW expansion. The AI is exceptional in the expansion and more fun to play against and harder to play against. I don't see why you people have issues with squares vs hexes it just adds more dimensions for flanking and rear attacks to me. I like it myself. At least it's turn based. SC2 would rank tops in how I would list the Grand strategy games. Besides SC2 for the most part feels a lot like Panzer General to me in that units are numbers of 10 and reinforcing is quite simular. Of course Panzer General was more about playing scenarios leading to the next scenario and SC2 is more about playing out the whole war on an operational strategic scale.
1. SC2 w/WAW expansion
2. Making History
3. GGWAW
4. HOI I & II
5. CEAW
6. Axis & Allies Hasbro
