Unit Graphics

I was trying to do some modifying to the unit graphics and hit a stopping point when I tried to find the graphic for the color bar that identifies the unit’s HQ. Expected to find a standard graphic in the System Graphic folder but nothing there appears to be what I am looking for. Anyone know the location or name of the graphic?

Also, does anyone have a better “Fortification” graphic they would like to share?

You set that color for yourself, just click on the HQ's colorbar and you get a palette(not on the map but where the Hq apear in the lower part of the screen when the unit is selected). Very useful when there are two HQs next to eachother with 'almost' the same color

You set that color for yourself . . .

Thanks, but that is not what I am looking for. I want to know the name and location of the physical graphic so that I can change the size and shape of the color bar. I’m not that crazy about having a big, fat color stripe along the left side on my units.

I would grab a silouhette of the "pick and axe" symbol as found on this image:

Edit: Guess that is actually a hammer and pick but should work. You might do a Google image search for a better "pick and axe" symbol though. If you just color it all in nobody is going to throw a lawsuit at your for copyright issues.

No-one is answering the question ... :)

I don't know for sure but would guess that the bar is not a file but is generated on the fly.

Always wonderful to hear from one who enjoys WotR. Makes it all worth while. In all honesty though, if you are talking about the TOAW III version, I did not make the conversion from ACOW to TOAW III. All credit for the conversions should be directed to . . . damn, forgot the name . . . but I’ll look it up if I still have the old e-mail. He deserves all the credit for the conversion.

With your posting I now know of at least 4 people who have played the game. Great to know that so many people enjoy the game!! 4 people! Wow, FitE fans eat your hearts out!!! WotR now has four fans and FitE only has a few thousand!

I was also recently approached by a person who wanted to do a PBEM game of WotR. He since seems to have entered the ozone layer . . . so if you want to start a TOAW III pbm game of WotR, give me a ring. Haven’t played it in a while . . . kind of miss those Orcs and Elfs!

As for a conversion to AT, well . . . I just don’t see AT as being a good platform for WotR. I would support other authors porting the TOAW version to AT, but for myself, I think I am waiting for an adaptive WEGO system to come along before I port the scenario.

There is no graphic for it AFAIK - however there is one for hte country symbol that is above it and you can shift that around - it's a bit of a pain to do because you have to make it with a transparent background which is not available in all editors - eg there's nothing for it in MS Paint which is otherwise as good as gold for the basic graphics.

If you use MS Paint, just make the background pink to be transparent and save the graphic as a .bmp. Load the .bmp up in place of the old graphic, usually a .png, and you're good to go.

-Why do you think AT isn´t well suited for WoTR? I think its system is even more flexible than TOAW. We can play your WoTR scenario. Just drop me an e-mail on afenelon@terra.com.br. We will use TOAW III version, right?

Think you are right about the color bar being generated by unknown forces within the program. At least there is nothing I can find that's editable . . . too bad since I would like to make the color bar smaller as shown in the attached picture. However, as the consolation prize, I was able to get rid of the little flag in the top left corner. Found those to be really annoying!

Agree completely that AT has certain capabilities that are lacking in TOAW, however, I’m not convinced that combat resolution in AT is well suited to what I want in a WotR scenario. There are also house rules for movement and leaders which AT does not seem to duplicate. But who knows, this could all change with time.

Look for an incoming e-mail later today.
