Low AI

I have played three games as the solwe human player with the AI set to low. It did not matter if I played as Spain, Turkey or Russia, Turkey and France would set up the same way. Is this common?

jony663,

the answer to your question is YES - for the moment (who knows what the future will hold...).

The AI's always use the same set-ups (at this time).

BTW, the difference between LOW, MEDIUM and HIGH AI is only the amount of free resources they recieve during the Economic phase - there is only ONE AI system.

What do you mean by free resources?

Difficulty levels above 'easy' give the AI additional manpower, money and victory points.

Having the AI randomly select a saved setup would be nice and shouldn't be too hard implement?

So long as there were goals attached to the setup I agree.

As an example: Spain can have the "Go for North Africa" setup where it trys to make the Ottoman. Or the "Go for Italy" Setup etc. However it would need to have the AI to do it too. Not just sit there and random roll what it would take next. If your setup to conq Morocco first turn the declare on Naples your screwed.

Ultimately the AI needs quite a bit of work in the strategy department and setups would be a big part of that to make this game a great single player game, but just having it randomly draw a setup without a goal or reason why it chose that setup would be like pissing in the ocean.

Single player mode, as it stands, seems to be a great tutorial to learn to play and a fantastic logistics tool for trying scenarios you will implement in PBEM games.

So the game basically does not have a seriously developed AI? Or is the AI generally clever, but just doesn't vary its initial setup?

IMHO, the AI is not generally clever or seriously developed.

It is good enough to teach someone who has never played EiA how the game works, but only human players will give you any real challenges.

This is sure to change in the future sometime, but for the moment, if you are an experienced EiA or EiH player, you will walk over the AI playing any Major power....

But welcome to the EIANW community!

It also helps to tighten up your game.  It will jump on your undefended capital or supply route in a heartbeat.  Tactically, it has a bad habit of dividing it's forces in the midst of a big stack, only to be picked off one corps at a time.  Of course the whole diplomacy logic is seems mostly random, Spain declaring on Russia, Prussia declaring on England...
