Do i need to DO entrenchment? Or is it automatic?

If I need to give the command to entrench, where's the button?

auto, although the engeniers can build , in most scenarios forts

At start of every turn units get entrenchment increase, if you move them you lose the entrenchment again. Max ammount of entrenchment can build up quite high in heavy and well defensible terrain.

Which also adds to strategic descisions where to put up defensive lines, if and when to counterattack and when to fall back/advance.
