As an experiment, I transported the 1990 real players back to 1923 teams/ballparks. Now, this means that the database has 100% real players in it, as there were 1210 imported players to fill the 800 roster slots, plus the free agent pool. This also means that the talent base of the association is phenomenal.

After the draft, my Dodgers ended up at the bottom of the pre-season power rankings. As per usual, I opted to load up on youth, potential, pitching, defense and speed.

My first ten draft picks, and their ages in 1990:

1. SP Greg Maddux, 24
2. SP Tom Glavine, 24
3. RP Gregg Olson, 24
4. SP Ben McDonald, 23
5. SP Brian Holman, 25
6. RF Sammy Sosa, 22
7. 3B Gary Sheffield, 22
8. C Todd Zeile, 25
9. 2B Roberto Alomar, 22
10. SS Jeff Blauser, 25

The only weird thing is that even though I imported the 1923 OOTP schedule, the year still shows as 1990. I suppose this is to keep the Lahman imports in synch.

KG,

Is this experiment a short-term run or are you going to go the distance with it? I'm very curious to see how they perform in that era!

I'm taking this day-to-day. My first notion was to ensure a 100% real-player population. Secondary to this is the performance of modern players in the old parks. I also wanna test out the old cliches: does good pitching beat good hitting, or vice versa? How important is speed on the bases? Of course, there's "are today's players better than the old-timers"?

I don't expect to answer any of these questions conclusively, but I hope it will be interesting to follow. [;)]

When you have a chance, KG-- could we get a glance at your roster? I'm curious who else you used to fill the holes, in the bullpen, as reserves, etc.

Here's a look at my team. I deliberately drafted high-potential players, and this team is VERY young. With finances turned off, I can develop these guys and build a solid foundation for the future. Some of these guys will undoubtedly be used as trade bait later on.
