How Old Are You?

A bit of Trivia here. Does anyone remember Strategy and Tactics Magazine? I am curious if there is any connection with the current computer game "War in the Pacific" and the board game published by Simulation Publications, Inc. (SPI) which was James Dunnigan's Company until it folded in teh late 1970's.

Yes, its still being published, and you would need to ask Gary Grigsby about the second question.
JFD did get involved in the late 80s with an attempt at a computerised Pacific war simulation but the result barked at the moon; GG's Pacific War followed a couple of years later.

I remember S&T magazine loved the free minigames. I still have a few SPI games in my collection. I don't think there is any connection between the games other than the name.

I could not count the hours that I spent playing Drang nach Osten, Unentschieden, and Die Götterdämmerung published by GDW. My brothers and I would immerse ourselves for weeks playing these games. Those were the days!

I think it may be in Coach Z's basement still, though, and it wasn't in the best condition when last we played it...

I have a bookshelf packed with old SPI and Victory Games and others right behind me -- haven't pulled one out in years however.
First game was France 1940, got it in about 1973 or so. Been addicted ever since.

It was recently reprinted, somebody on the forum bought the reprint last year. I tracked it down, list price is just $420.

I bought that one with high hopes, but I couldn't bring myself to enjoy it. Talk about an obtuse interface...
When I heard people talking about GG's Pacific War I thought that they were describing the game I had purchased - not knowing that they were two different games. I pretty much thought that until I read this thread.

When I heard people talking about GG's Pacific War I thought that they were describing the game I had purchased - not knowing that they were two different games. I pretty much thought that until I read this thread.
There was no architect in overall charge and no real requirements analysis. Some of the parts were actually very nice, but it couldn't walk and chew gum at the same time. JFD was a bit discouraged, but it was probably a good learning experience for him.

Lets not forget OSG and even TFG, for the new geneation Avalanche Press. My favorites are
Dark December, CV, Air War, PanzerArmeeAfika, Ultimatum, Ironclads, Knights of the Air and VITP.
Those were the days I cant set em up until my daughter gets older she would take the counters and hide them.

I sold my copy of WitP about a year ago for about $300. I used the cash to buy Decision Games' new remake of WitP. I got it for $340 when it first came out. It's up to $420 now. [X(]
