Sorties with Corps - why pbem battle file exchange?

Can we have sorties automated? Why do we need to exchange battle files? In two games now we have sorties where beseiged corps in cities sortie and we simply exchanged files to take off casualties...there is no chit picking, etc...so why exchange battle files...cant the ai handle casualties?
I see this is the same as trivia combat or combat with single corps or with ai, etc...why cant this be automated like other combats? It really has thrown us for a loop, and seems to unecessarily bog down the game?
thanks
Erik

I think we have this fixed in the 1.01 patch. They should be automated, due to the orders that you can give the garrison.

Thanks Marshall for the reply, BUT I am sure what standikng orders have to do with it because in a sortie there is no combat chits...the tables are set, so no chits are picked in sortie battles, etc. What the computer wants you to do is simply remove casualties, thats all the exchange of files do...but what I am saying why cant this be automated?
Best
Erik

Erik:
I think we're saying the same thing. The orders you can give a garrison are orders like "Stand and Sortie" or "Stand and No Sortie". These orders allow the automation of the ENTIRE sortie process without file exchanges.

So, how on earth does one SET these orders? There's absolutely nothing in the manual about it (or, at least nothing obvious).

Never mind. I found it.
