Newbie: Hv support (GE)

Hi, I'm doing my first Hv missile titan - it's supposed to sit at long range, launching volleys of death one after another, while buddies take on the hostile force. Thus, about 20-30p armour in each slot and as much firepower as possible.

The squad atm is 2 x R, 1 x L, 2 X H, including this model. I would export the other Hv titan too but don't know if that's possible when it's a squad's custom titan.

What I have so far is something like this:
Titan Name: Halberd cncpt Long Range Heavy Titan

I notice that I'm running out of slots but there's still quite a bit of free weight. I assume I should upgrade to a larger chassis (again!) to fit in all those launchers?

I'm downgrading my defensive systems - why does the halberd need them anyway, are they for higher difficulty levels when your squad is something better than my Regular? I could maybe upgrade the DCS or install a very small shield, though... The pilot (Puma) is supposed to develop high defensive systems skills. And downgrade scanner - don't need fast scans with the long reload time of missiles.

The LL should work at the shorter end of my typical engagement range, E is the secondary weapon type for the pilot (she is better with G though). I could add a 2nd LL if that makes sense (utilizes free heat capacity). It will also serve as a backup for short-range self defense or finishing off enemies in the end of the fight.

I ended with the below, and what happens? In the first fight I try it out, I get charged by a bunch of close range recons. Oh, well. [8|]

I'm satisfied with the design though - it was just bad tactical skill, not the designer's fault [;)] I had to downgrade some of those systems, to fit everything and then have some weight left for the armour, pretty much as planned. One less launcher and maybe a smaller chassis with more armour could have been better for campaign play... or should I leave out the jump jets... but I think they're a must for swift deployment, just don't know how to use them much yet.

The pinboard rated the thing 17/18 pts (or an earlier version), four green balls in firepower, or such! [8D]

Here's the other heavy:

Titan Name: Megabeam2i Short Range Heavy Titan

This works pretty much as expected. From medium range, the LLs hit reliably. Close by, I switch to pulse lasers. Occasionally (eg. prone opponent) I fire them all, without any apparent heat or power issues. If I used water or fought in polar environment, I could get even more out of this...

Halberd mod:
Notice that scanners are not just good for their scan time. Range, accuracy, etc.
I'm not sure you have too much free heat capacity to use a 2nd LL  [;)]  2.28 is enough for one, but not for 2. And you have power considerations to take into account too.
There's already an assault model named Devastator  [;)]
Also remember that GMs can be deflected by flares.
Armor seems a little too thin IMO.
There are other heavy designs based on GMHs in the database too, have you looked at the Sagitta? Quite similar.

Megabeam:
Definitely under armored. And no JJs to close in to convenient range.
