Question about RHS installation.

Okay, forgive my ignorance.
I have been to the RHS web site and have read the installation instructions.
But the instructions as posted do not match up with the files.
For example, the instructions mention a new starter button. I can find no such button.
When I go to the level 7 map files, there are sveral files available for download, both with and without hexes. I have no idea if I should download one or all 3 files.
Is there any recent list of EXACTLY what files I should install if I want to play level 7 RHSAIO? And better yet, are there clear instructions as to how to install these files? Please help!!

Update: I attempted to install as per instructions.
Went through surprise turn on 12/7 (BTW the map is amazing) without a hitch, so I must be doing at least something right.
Anyway, I get to allied turn and none of the ship art is visible. Worse, when I tried to view specific ship reinforcements, I got a CTD. I am a computer dummy, but I believe it has something to do with the location to which I extracted the ship art.

You need to unzip the downloaded ship art folder and copy/paste or drag/drop each of the ship pics into the games' art folder..

Thanks for the quick reply.
I don't think the problem is which folder I'm copying to. I think the problem is that I'm copying the incorrect file into the folder. There are numerous files to choose from and the installation guide isn't describing exact file names and locations.

There is now a new RHS standard ship art (standard meaning using a common standard with new stock and CHS art)
but it isn't posted to the site. Both site managers are not available at the moment - so I sent this to people who wanted it. I need an email address to send it to you.

There is an extensive install section in the RHS Manual - which is on the site - and which I also can send.

There is an RHS installer - the link is posted in the thread - but it does not contain the latest RHS files. Soon this will be reissued in a polished form with current files.

hay guys,

I installed V7 of RHS but i'm running into issues with certain cities. I'm playing the RHSAIO jap as teh AI scenario. Cities like rangoon and a few on australia and some other cities there are ships but i cant get them to leave port for the life of me. When i hit 1 they say they are LAND hexes too i have used teh right maps at least i think i have i used the V7 maps with the 1 V7 update.

Am i doing something wrong?
Thanks!

Did you install the pwhex.dat file in the main WITP directory? To emphasize, that one goes in the top folder (wherever you have RHS installed), not in the scenario sub-folder. I suppose it could be other things wrong, but that's the first one to check.

This must be a pwhex issue. You need Level 7 pwhex.dat = STANDARDpwhex7.dat

actually i dont feel too stupid now its not in the readme

http://rhs.akdreemer.com/RHS%20Basic%20 ... 0V1.00.txt

Now just to find which zip has this pwhex file
I don't see the pwhex in any of the map zips or even the scenario zips. That also probably explains why ships were disregarding the sea lanes on teh maps edge :)

Can you guys point me in the right direction as to where the hexdat file is? Thanks

Note if you elect to use RIVERpwhex7.dat - rename it pwhex.dat - you can even "evacuate" the river ships - presumably up the coast to India. But you must carefully NOT allow big ships to enter the rivers while you use it. For safety, go back to using the regular pwhex file a turn or so later: rename STANDARDpwhex7.dat as pwhex.dat when you want to go back.

There is also a RRRIVERpwhex7.dat file - for use to "open" the river systems AFTER the change to build rail lines.

I didn't have an installer i had to goto the site and download all the packages seperately depending on waht i wanted to use.

A question for you el cid... i'm playing RHSAIO with AI japan. Its 2/15/42 and the japs have taken malaya and PI but they havent even entered the Manila Hex or the singapore hex. I mean they are pounding me by the air but i'm suprised they havent moved any units into the hex yet.

Any ideas?

Sorry it took so long to answer.  I wasn't able to view the forums for a/b a week until I figured out I needed to delete my internet browsing history.  Yes I am interested in obtaining that ship art by email, and here's my address: tacitus27@aol.com.
I tried installing again and got the same CTD.  So as far as I know, the ship art files currently on the RHS website aren't meshing witht the rest of the scenarion.

Mifune is ready to update the site. But I am having problems (like his - virus related) and I am not ready to send most forward.
But ship art is ready - and alvrmartin should be able to provide them. I will advise him.

Yes

Idea number one: if you want "intelligent" play do not play vs AI - which in spite of its name is most unintelligent!

Idea number two: AI's "strategy" is to assume you do the "historical" thing and hide out on Bataan - so it goes there first.
This is ahistorical in the sense that Homma went for Manila first. But I cannot change hard code. It is not unusual for AI to neglect major parts of DEI and the Philippines - forever.

Idea number three: AIO and CAIO are practice scenarios - so players may learn the game without embarassing themselves vs human opponents. It is the best possible. I can make them slightly better - and am doing so as time passes - but they will NEVER do what they should and will ALWAYS waste at least 5/6 of Japans shipping potential - and not be realistic in ways similar to your problem here - unless Matrix invests money in AI - which it won't do even for AE. Sorry.
