A few quick questions

1. When I deny an alliance request the log should probably state that I refused. This makes it seem like Turkey refused a request I made. It makes it easier to follow the flow of the game if the text is more clear.

2. Here I'm wondering about what Spain is up to. Spain has been my ally for some time. Great Britian and I have been at war since the start. I have been at war with Prussia for a few turns. Doesn't an ally automatically go to war against everyone I'm at war with? I thought Spain would have already been at war with both Prussia and Great Britian. Is an alliance between an ally and an enemy allowed? I'm probably missing something about alliances that I should know. Don't throw tomatoes, I'm still trying to learn the game.

I don't remember Spain asking me for access. No splash screen opened. If they did ask for access I would have allowed it since we are allies.

The AI asks for access, you have to set the settings in the political response screen. (allow access to whatever).  At the time diplomacy is resolved, if there is an ask, it checks to see if you would allow, and resolves the action.

Same thing with alliances.  For an AI-to-Human (or Human-to-Human) interaction, the resolution is a check to see if you are going to accept an alliance, and the check box is also on the political responses screen.

For an AI-to-AI or Human-to-AI alliance, then you get into the natural enemies/friends table and the competitive die roll business

Oh, and about alliances, you are only forced to DOW someone as a result of a call to ally, which can happen only when someone declares war on you.  (no, there's no cascade, so you can't call an ally as a result of someone else calling an ally.)  in Human games, it's usually polite to DOW (at some point) the enemies of your ally.  On the other hand, I've been a rat bastard Turk who played both sides of the Franco-British war.  getting money from both sides. :)

I beleive that to be wrong or alternativly i read it wrong.

If you declare war on another power he chooses if to call one or more of his allies

If he calls any of his allies you can call any or all of your allies.

There is no further calls.

Hmm, I'm pretty sure I didn't get to call when my victim called, maybe I didn't check the appropriate box.  In any case though, minor allies are not called when the target calls.

Oh, you are also forced to DOW when 2 majors DOW a minor and neither backs down, but that's got nothing to do with alliances. :)

I think minor with allied status automaticly join u if someone dows u, but you cant call a minor if your the aggressor if it makes sense

but if you can (theoretically) call MP allies if your opponent calls, why can't you call minor allies?

Hey Bob,

The one thing I'll add to this thread is that Turkey may indeed be trying to request an alliance with you, but if you do not have that option checked in the Political options screen then an alliance will not occur.

I'd like to see a dialogue box pop-up where it throws it in your face to accept an alliance/surrender/whatever other appropriate Diplomacy phase issue should arise, though I also realize this would create problems for PBEM games.

Cheers,

Ted
