Changing Base HQ attachments...

Not sure if this is mod related (CHS) or is a more general issue. I'm noticing that the choices one has for changing a base's HQ vary with the base in question. It can become very restrictive as well. In one example, Tulagi can only be changed to WEST COAST...all other options are greyed out. What is happening?
Thanks

Ron, I believe this is a time-related issue to preserve some historical aspects of the game..RHS(an off-shoot of CHS) shares this and while it might seem gamey, it does prevent certain bases from becoming points of new aircraft arrival from coming too early, historically.
For instance, If Noumea could be purchased on 8Dec 41 as "Southwest Pacific", new P40's, etc, would come in theatre as soon as "Southwest Pacific" was due to get replacement planes, and negate somewhat the players need to send the forces to set up the base.........
As time goes by(apologies to Dooley Wilson), the bases in question do allow more choices to become available.

I'm not sure why it is allowing West Coast, so I can't comment on that. However, way back when, I got frustrated trying to change base HQ's like you are. Someone on the forum had a secret decoder ring and told me that you can only change a base to an HQ
if an LCU reporting to that HQ is present at the base. Worked like a charm.

This is hard code, and apparently the system is exactly as WITPQS says it is: code "knows" which options should be a possibiilty by looking at things like nationality and the reporting HQ of units in the hex. This is similar to aircraft upgrades, and players do not always see the same options.

Hmmm...OK, how does one get a restricted HQ unit like a West Coast unit to Tulagi for it to only recognize West Coast HQ options?[;)] Something rotten in the crisper here...[8D]

That might be whatever hard code Sid referred to. I do know if you put an LCU there, you will then be able to change to that LCU's HQ if you wish (and have the points).

Wether or not a HQ is restricted is hard code - by slot. One can change what command is restricted by changing slots - and RHS did - although I am not sure we are really better off (the same number of restricted commands still hampers players). Yet restricted commands have a function - to restrict gamey play - as few players will leave things for "political reasons." [Hmmm - maybe political points could have another meaning? ] When selecting a HQ, the software does nto "know" if the slot is restricted or not - it either is or it is not - and until you are under that HQ it does not matter to the software. AI is not "intelligent" - nor is code - it just is.

My point was that it was not a restricted HQ unit so why, if I understand your logic, would the code recognize a unit as west coast when it clearly is not, never was?
I hate hard code with a passion. Some sh-t should just die already.[8D]

I thought you could only change the command of a base to another command if an LCU of the new command was stationed there (wouldn't make sense for West Coast in Tulagi, as you couldn't a WC unit there to begin with). Sounds like an "issue".
