no mouse control after gamestart in the H3 window

Hello,
I bought the Harpoon bundle and I am eager to play H3 cause I was a big H2 addict.
My Problem : The Game starts, but I have no mouse control at all in the H3 window.
I tried every setting in the video configuration (different screen sizes, windows mode, full window mode, no video or sound etc.)
I am running windows XP SP2.
Who has some more hints ?
thanks in advance,
Ingo

Three things come to mind;-
1) ANW doesn't like custom mouse pointers or desktop themes. Turn them off.
2) Sometimes you get a bug where the mouse won't move. Try minimizing the screen, then maximizing it.
3) Hitting CTRL-F and using the cursor and tab keys to force a save can sometimes get rid of it.
Mind you, I'm thinking of an OCCASIONAL bug for the last 2, rather than it happening every time. I suspect you might have a theme or mouse pointer set.
Anyone got any better ideas?

Hmm. Are you using a custom mouse? Touchscreen? Perhaps a laptop touchpad?
If it's just a standard PS/2 or USB mouse then I must admit I'm flummoxed.
Couple things to try;-
1) Try running the game in Safe Mode. When you turn on your computer, keep tapping F8. That should get you to a pre-Windows screen. Use the up arrow and return to select Safe Mode (takes ages to load). Set the game screen choice to 640 X 400 (Safe Mode only works at this resolution). If the mouse still won't appear with the game, then it's not a malware or virus problem, but rather a hardware incompatibility problem.
2) Try downloading the USNI demo from ;-

That uses the new VC++ compilation methods like the new patch will. If that works OK, then the next patch (still undergoing release candidate testing) should resolve your problem.
Perhaps you have some old games/utilties installed that also use the Allegro system? It would be rather old, like a DOS based game or utility tweaked to work with Windows. Safe Mode should bypass anything like that.

Sorry Puffin. I gave you a bum steer there... Safe Mode won't let Harpoon 3 work at all.
I found this out a couple days ago but I got laid low by a stupid accident. Tripped over a kerb and landed on my thigh with my mobile phone in the pocket.
The phone is fine but my thigh feels like someone's hit it with a steak hammer.
Anyway, if you are still having problems suggest you post directly to the makers;-
