I dunno if this was a good barbarossa opening or not. As you can see on the Screenshots i ignored a couple of russian forces. The "problem" i always have as german in Barbarossa is that the starting forces are not really enough to kill the complete russian front in turn 1, only something like 80% is a reasonable goal i think.

I am looking forward to what surprises Seille will inflict upon me :)

They are alive, but at 0 readiness, so i think they can't escape. At least i hope so.

they'll get readiness at beginning of Allied (edited) turn. also it looks like AGN and AGC did ok but AG Romania didn't get across either of the southernmost bridges nor cut off many of the soviet units farthest south - this is imo gonna come back to haunt you.

Hm interesting. I bombarded those planes at the AG-Center Front, but my airforce did not destroy all of them iirc :(.

You learn a lot playing better players and, so far, Juergen (seille) is the best player that I've had the honor of playing.

For your opener:

- In the Center, I think you may have spent too much effort wiping out the Bialystock pocket and not enough effort moving forward.  In general, your goal is not to elimate units, but to cut them off and make sure your supply line is in tact for the next move.
- On the Black Sea, you did not reach the bridgehead near Odessa so the entire garrison West of the river can be withdrawn.  I would have re-started since it will be hard to cross all the rivers, get Sevastopol, and get across the Kerch Strait by winter.
- Did you attack in Finland?  It is easy to forget.

The overall casualty level in turn 1 is fine.  However, the real key for the Germans is getting to full mechanization.  Make sure you are re-constituting your units.  You should have no horse drawn units by the end of turn 3 (except HQ).  Here are some other tips:

- Your HQ's should have no transfer capacity by the end of the turn.  If you look at your tank unit close to Riga, there is an empty hex that you were able to paint.  I like to transfer infantry into the front HQ (AGN here) and then put a 'painter' in the open hex.  You will paint faster and move the brunt of your army faster.  (This tactic won't work once the chase is over since the front unit is vulnerable to counter attack).

- Your engineers should always be towards the front of the AG.  There role is to build roads that allow your troops to by pass obstacles.  Your engineer corps in the south is not helping you much.

- Always attack from the rear.  Use your front line units to grab as much land as possible.  Also move as much as possible before making your attacks.  You never know when you discover a small corps holding a bridgehead that can be wiped out with an airstrike followed by a tank unit with 20-30 ap left.

Good tips, Tom. We both know they´re working very well [;)].
But Bornon is not really a greenhorn in russia 1941. I´ve read a AAR from him in a german
forum and thought it could be a challenge to play him. And i´m sure it will be.
Lol, i don´t think he can make more problems than you did in our game [:D]

@All
Tom is the real master in this scenario [&o]
If you want to have a real challenge play him.
His performance with the germans in russia 1941 can often be very frustrating for the russian player.
I would really wonder if somebody can beat him there.

I´ll post my first turn today.

Yes Toms tipps here are really excellent.

My main problem with germany in the russian scenario is that this is not my preferred playstyle. I love to use attrition tactics and they work imho well in AT, but not for germany in this scenario of course.
But usually i prefer to advance slowly if i can this way minimize my own casualities while inflicting severe casualities upon the enemy.

Tom is the master in this scenario. At least i did not play a guy that played that excellent with the
Germans so far.
Well planned and agressive attack that are always very focussed.
Speed and agressiveness are the keys for the germans to win here.

First turn russia:

Not much to report here. I moved back the surviving troops and started to build up new defense lines
everywhere. I did not attack. Just moving, disbanding and creating new units.
And i reorganized my chain of comand and production to make it more flexible.
Btw, it was a very good first german turn. Maybe except the Dnjestr bridges in the south, but that shouldn´t be a serious problem....

Turn 2 played, not much happened and i made an annoying error assuming this scenario has the same gamerules as waw. So i did some suboptimal builds in turn 1.

And i note already that Seille is delaying me extremely well.

Delaying is my job, delaying and winning time.
Unfortunately i failed to blow up some bridges in my turn.
At least the bridges near Riga are dead.

I´m still very busy with building up defense lines. I have to be fast here since the german advance is
not that slow. With light tank II i made a new weapon available this turn after i picked rifle II
in the first turn. These upgrades will help me yet in defense and later in case i´ll be able to do some counterattacks.

I´ll show pics in case they do not TOP SECRET informations as soon as the real fights start.

More setbacks for the germans. Minsk and Riga are taken, but Kiev not. A quite tough russian infantry unit is defending kiev, i dare not to attack this turn.
