Hi !!!
Just saw Marky's header for his new AAR... and as he wanted to play yet another canal against myself and as we had a lot of fun in our first game in that scenario, here we go.
Poor IJN is commanded by my humble self, and the Allies are all his...
This will be a joint AAR... and I do not intend to limit it to Combat reports, though I have no idea where this is going...
Marky, turn has been sent [:D]

Have you ever had your opponent suffering from
alot-of-turns-in-inbox-itis ?
Have you ever thought of putting an end to his suffering and just shied away from using that good old '45 because of the unpleasant side effect that it just won't remedy YOUR lack of turns ?
If so, our
PRIORITIZE MY TURN !!!-COOKIES
will be the solution. Just feed them to your opponents, peferably one before you send each turn, and he is going to start doing your turn no matter how many are already in his inbox.

Terror bombers attack

Rabaul... about 10am... a busy market place on a sunny morning...
Suddenly, the sound of heavy engines... Babies begin to cry, small children stare up, resisting their panicking mothers... In the sky, about 30 dots appear and grow rapidly. Polite, good looking Japanese soldiers in clean and well ironed uniform help elderly people to get to safety before running to their defense positions, courtesy which will take a heavy price, as AAA fire was feeble due to this.
The dots grow larger and larger, materialize into the shape of 4E bombers, coming in low... from the mere sound, a pile of fruits looses balance and falls all over the place... then the bomb bays open, while the gunners shoot at fleeing civilians.
After the attack, 101 civilians are dead... 100 women, children and elderly people. The only military loss is Private Ito, who fell over a fruit and broke both his gun and his neck...

Imperial headquarters report that the enemy has renewed his terror-attacks on civilians at Rabaul and also bombed a boy scout camp at Gualdacanal.
However, the number of atacking planes went down compared to yesterday's attack, showing that the US will not be able to withstand the war of atrition they are forced to lead now.
Also, some Fishtrawlers were attacked by enemy cruisers, which sank two of them.
Who says Rufe's are useless ?

Day Air attack on TF, near Shortlands at 63,93
Japanese aircraft
A6M2-N Rufe x 8
Allied aircraft
SBD Dauntless x 32
TBF Avenger x 12
No Japanese losses
Allied aircraft losses
SBD Dauntless: 5 destroyed, 3 damaged
TBF Avenger: 1 damaged
Japanese Ships
PC Ch 6, Bomb hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
PC Ch 4
[:D]
Other than that, the Americans storm ashore at Gualdecanal to secure the soon-to-be level 4 AF from which they want to bomb the empire to shreds.[8|]
Like this, e.g.
Day Air attack on Shortlands , at 63,93
Japanese aircraft
A6M2-N Rufe x 10
Allied aircraft
B-24D Liberator x 3
Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2-N Rufe: 1 damaged
Allied aircraft losses
B-24D Liberator: 3 damaged
Aircraft Attacking:
3 x B-24D Liberator bombing at 8000 feet
(Note again the excellent defence conducted by Rufes [:D])
Unfortunately, right now I don't have too many assets available to counter that move... a volunteer brigade composed of fishermen was intercepted, so beefing up the defense did not work...[&:]
Sheer curiosity question

Hi out there...
trying to lure more posters in here, so I got a question for you:
Did anyone out there manage to stop (preferably against a human opponent) the onslaught effectively ? Of course, one may try to use the cruisers... but I guess that comes at a high price...

Yet another request for stories from your PBEM efforts...
Did anyone ever see or use a significantly different approach of/as the Allied player to this scenario other than taking Lunga and smashing everything/hopping forward under its air cover ?

Ok, just a few short facts, as it's getting late around here:
- IJN subs took a few shots this turn, but did not hit a thing. Retaliating Allied ASW was much more successful [:@]
- Lunga is in Allied hands[:@][:@]. The survivors of the IJA fled to Tasseferonga.
- The allied carrier TF went for another heroic attack on ships at Shortlands, sinking another PC[:@][:@][:@]. But they met fighter cover again, so a couple of Dauntless and Wildcat were shot down in exchange for 2 of my fighters.
- Allied Heavies were taking a rest today and/or busy scouting.
