Now that the Mets have Johann Santana, I can take the paper bag off my head and hold my head up high again.[&o]

If there is one thing I have learned after watching 30 years of Mets baseball is that of all the possible outcomes, the one that stings the most will come to pass.
At least we made history last year......

I'm not a Mets fan, but you have a beautiful new/retro ballpark to look forward to. The exterior design is intentionally reminiscent of Ebbets Field, which I think is cool.

And I am looking forward to going to the new ballpark.
I first went to Ebbets Field in 1947 when I started to follow baseball.
I saw many thrilling games there.
A rookie wearing #42 was my favorite and the most exciting ball player I have ever seen.
Growing up in Brooklyn was an exciting time.
There were three ball teams, and I got to see all of them by going by subway to the parks.
Dodgers - Ebbets Field
Giants - Polo Grounds
Yankees - Yankee Stadium
And we had Willie, Mickey, and the Duke.

I agree on the stadium, it is nice to see them go 'throwback'. I am excited to see a game there in a couple of years.
I do not have the memories of Brooklyn (a little before my time) but I kind of have to thank them for bugging out. If they stayed, there would be no Mets [;)]

As a Red Sox fan, I am ecstatic that the Mets got Santana, we get to keep Ellsbury and Buchholz, the Yanks don't get Santana and Santana is out of the AL. That thar is a triple play!!!!

Santana is a very good pitcher, but six years is a long time to be shelling out that kind of money for a pitcher. Too much chance he will have arm troubles and all that money is guaranteed. I understand he has already had elbow issues in the past.
From my point of view, bad for the Dodgers in the short term. But maybe not so bad if the Mets end up eating a lot of money in the long term. Although, the Mets seem to have bottomless pockets.

I agree with this evaluation as it pertains to Pedro but Johan is still in his prime and has no record of being injury prone. I would make that trade at that salary cost any day for that kind of pitcher.

As a Braves fan, I wish Johan and the Mets all the success in the world. I would like nothing better than for Johan to be the next Mike Hampton
