Databases?

Databases databases everwhere but not a clue to pick.

Over the past year or so I update the game and play a few rounds. However, it seems that there are databases all over the place. All different names, versions, descriptions, etc. The last patch to 3.9 only has one showing up. The game config program has even more obscure selections.

I was confused before, but now am totally lost. It seems that some have the same scenarios even.

I tried searching the site, but got even more confused. I am to the point of not wanting to play the game since I don't know what database to use.

It seems like is becoming an insider thing.[&:][&:][&:]

Its no such thing but it can be a bit tricky to decide. Use the one that came with it until you run out of scenarios then start looking for another.

Once it clicks on how to change and install them it becomes easier. It used to be a real BEAR until the launcher came along. I hated modifing INI files. Thing is, I learned to and I actually have had to use it at work a time or 2 :)

Not so much tricky to decide which database to use but know what scenarios are designed for which database when you have downloaded a few. I have often thought that the naming convention of scenarios should include the databases name or number in the scenarios filename.

Since the Scens are now stored in the DB Folder, it has become easier but then again sometimes it is difficult to know where to put them. I have always wanted a Scen+DB Download at the same time which was the easiest way but that had it own issues etc.

have to agree with JRyan it is much easier to shift between databases now that scenarios are stored in same folder. However it is difficult to keep track of which databases are being updated for use with harpoon anw or indeed plan to be updated. DB2000, my favourite database comes to mind. Any chance of a list of current status so that new users have a quick and easy reference?

Like this guys?

C:\Matrix Games\Harpoon 3 Advanced Naval Warfare\Databases\HUD3\SCENARIOS\HUD3 GC1
ASLTZION-3.9.0.SCN
BLACK-3.9.0.SCN
BLOCKADE-3.9.0.SCN

Here's how it all appears in the scenario selection screen:

In the root directory of the game, there is a folder called databases.

Make a new folder there. Call it something suitable. Copy the relevant database files into it.

Use the launcher to choose which database you want.

Inside of each database folder is a folder called scenarios where you can find the relevant scenarios for that particular database.

Hope that makes things a little bit clearer. As for which one, there is nothing to stop you having all of them. You can only play one at a time though.
