In AE will IJN have the capability to concert all the CS ?
Will the CA conversions be in ?
I suppose in real life they only did two CS to CVL because they were not aware how much the danger was .
this may be more suited to the naval thread but I see when threads get really long to turn into coffe mornings talking abou the price of Tea .[;)]

It might have been possible to convert Mizuho had it not been sunk before Chitose and Chiyoda were sent in for conversion. Nisshin also could have been, but once again it was sunk before the Chitose or Chiyoda had completed conversion.
Mizuho sunk 1 May, 1942
Nisshin sunk 22 July 1943
Both of thse ships were very similar to the Chitose and Chiyoda, so they likely could have been converted in a similar manner.

The good thing is that it sounds like coversions will be easy to mod in AE, so even if all the CSs aren't set to convert in the "stock" AE, then they can easily be set to do so in a mod or special scenario. [8D]

In the Master scenario, upgrades and conversions will be what they were IRL or, in the case of certain conversions, what they might reasonably have been given actual conversions. The game scenarios will not include 'fantasy' conversions.
The editor defines fields that modders may use to make 'fantasy' conversions, but there are hard coded limits on what can be done, and how long it takes. Please be aware of the fact that Japan had limited shipbuilding/conversion resources, and your pet conversion may likely take a year or more to effect, with a corresponding decrease in the ability of the yard to build or repair other vessels; your choice - a few pet conversions, at the expense of the rest of the building/repair program, or a considered set dependant on IRL imperatives.

As the guy who worked on the bulk of the IJN warships, I'd add a bit more to John's correct statements. For example, in the case of the IJN cruisers, all the historical conversions are there. A few "what if" conversions are also there. I used the criteria of items that were planned and not terribly expensive. Some specific examples: The Mogami conversion to "Scout Cruiser" is in, The Isuzu CLAA conversion is in, the Maya conversion to CA-AA is in, and double planned conversions of Tenryu, Tatsuta to CLAA are in. Oh and Kitakami, Oi conversions to transport cruisers are in, as well as Kitakami conversion to CL-Kaiten Carrier. Those are a few of the tidbits and not sure any of those are included in stock. But for those who want to go further, to power of the new editor to define conversions and upgrades, is very extensive. So the MODDERS will certainly enjoy experimenting with the new capabilities.

Will modders also have the ability to expand Japan's ability to produce those conversions? I'm referring to the industrial limitations that John cited.

Personally, I'm just hoping I'll have the option of leaving Ise and Hyuga as real battleships instead of having to build them with those embarrasing little flight decks on them...and actually get a few realistic upgrades instead of having to leave them in their '42 configuration to prevent the rediculous conversion.
Historically they were converted...I'm just of the opinion that the conversions were nothing more than a waste of 2 perfectly good BBs.

Sure they have that ability already - and we aren't removing it. Just add more resources, oil, heavy industry, merchant yards and naval yards and go to town! Put all the extra resources and oil in Japan to bypass the constraint of having to carry it there - and then you're really in business!!!

IF you have a BB advantage ( in my game I have sunk 4 allied BB ) then by 43 what you need is good flak ships and these are Japans best I think .

OK thanks for that much appreciated and your dedication is also appreciated.

Kitakami conversion to CL-Kaiten Carrier.
[X(][X(]
Can't wait to get this game!
And none of the conversions are mandatory, so even in current WITP Ise et al can stay as they are all game long if you like.

This is true, but...you don't get any upgrades at all if you choose not to accept the hybrid conversion, so you end up with a very inadequately armed (AAA) BB by the end of the war. Now, I have fixed this in the stock game for myself simply by adding a new upgrade path that gives it the exact same AAA upgrades without the rediculous mini flight deck. Trouble is, I am set from the game start with that path (which IMHO isn't a bad thing).

And what about USN CL/CA to CVL conversions? Will that be doable with an airwing coming with the ship?

Can more Cleveland Class CLs convert to Independence CVLs?
Edit: I hope not! [:(]
