Holland

In my current game the CP declared war on Holland right away. But the Dutch troops were in the North-East of their country. Why? I had to move them back to Rotterdam and they arrived simultaneously with the Germans. That does not make any sense. Rotterdam is the only objective in that country (plus the food hex, but the city is decisive), why is it undefended?

I have never once attacked Holland so I never noticed where they'd get set up. I'll check it.

In the games I have played as the CP, I have seen Holland set it's 2 corps together in one of 4 possible starting locations. It seems to be random regardless of where the CP forces are. All 4 starting locations when the CP declares war seem to be in one of the 4 border hexes.

If it's anything like the Belgium set-ups, then I would reckon it all depends on who declares war, but then it's still random on that particular border. At least Belgium will split it's corps into seperate starting hexes.

One thing that might help with thier defense is giving them an HQ unit so that they may at least take back an overrun hex that is no longer occupied. I find it too easy to isolate their forces knowing that the only way we might have combat is if they enter one of their own hexes on the turn I enter it or if I initiate combat..which I won't unless they are in a hex I need..like a city. In the case of Holland and me as the CP, if their forces start in one of the 2 upper right hexes, I will never lose any forces since they can't get to me before I take Rotterdam and they surrender.

I have just seen this again. I know there are a few other minors who can get overrun easily. And I'm not even trying to argue that the Dutch would have had a change to defend against the Germans. But at least Italy and Belgium and Romania defend themselves and the CP have to fight to get these countries. Holland just surrenders practically without any fight at all?! I mean come on, why would they position their troops in the north-eastern corner of the country? There is NO strategic value to this position, because its not even between Rotterdam and the enemy.

They're always in Rotterdamn or about 2 hexes SE of there. Usually it doesn't matter since the BEF arrives in Rotterdamn if I DoW Holland.

Another thing that bothers me is that Holland (and Belgium) lose the industry they have once occupied. Is it a feature?

Nope. The starting positions are kinda randomised. I've had more than one game where they were in the N-E corner of the country, as far away from Rotterdam as the Germans and not in between the city and the border. If they are in Rotterdam, or the S-E - I have no problem with that. That makes sense. Its defending the Capitol and the country. But putting them in the corner of the country that is far away and nowhere near any point of any strategic value is just silly. The Italians don't start in Rome, The Belgians at least defend Liege in every game etc...

Yeah, I should have said I've only seen them in Rotterdamn or SE of there.
