In the CFL, what does "PKD" mean?

It's a defensive stat. Mostly for DB's but any defender that knocks the ball away to cause an incompletion gets a stat in this column. I think the NFL calls it Passes Defended or something like that.

Next question:

What does it mean for a kicker to have a "single?"

How many points are they worth? (I'm assuming one).

The short explanation is that anything that would be a Touchback in US rules, gives the kicking team a single point if playing with the Rouge rule turned on (making it a Canadian rule). The lone exception being a kickoff that goes out the back of the endzone. That instance does not award the single point. So a missed field goal in the CFL needs to be returned out of the endzone or a single point is awarded to the kicking team.

Well.. I wouldn't be offended if the rouge rule was tweaked a bit, but I like the idea. Why should deciding to not return the ball automatically give you good field position? You should have a choice to make, take the field position and give up a point, or try to run it out. It also adds a lot of additional coaching strategy when it comes to punting and long field goals.
 
I'd like to see the awarding of a single for punts and field goals that go out the back of the end zone removed though. That doesn't make any sense. It should be a conscience decision to return the kick out of the end zone or not return it and give up the point. If the receiving team is not given the choice the kicking team shouldn't get the point. But I don't make the rules.

OOOOOOH, okay, you know, now that I re-read the point of the "single" point, it does make a little bit of sense.

I dont think thats true. I saw them play football on the Flintstones. Historically, Bedrock is somewhere on the west coast of what is now the USA. So, I think Fred and Barney started football.

I mean, if it's on TV it must be true, right?

By the way, singles are used in some indoor rulesets as well.
