Is anyone out there with Soundblaster 16
soundcard (I suspect thats probably the
reason)experiencing same problem than I?

I hear no weather or background combat sounds
at all. Yes, I have it turned on in preferences.

(I know, I know... actually my soundcard
is the oldest component in my comp, but I've
never had any complaints until this)

Is your card an ISA card? If so, that's likely the problem, they as a rule can't do 'overlapping' sound effects very well. Any cheap PCI card should be able to do it... can you borrow one just long enough to see if that's the problem rather than buying a replacement?

Hi Skandranon,

Yes, it is ISA. Well, I suppose this calls
for an upgrade then... which was way long
overdue anyway. Midi music sounds just awful
with this old card of mine.
