Would it be fair to say that for a float plane to be launched and rcovered the CA or whatever needs to stop , so it would follow that they should be spending ops points and slow the TF down same with Jap subs it must have taken sometime to do this. Maybe launch and recovery of float planes should only be allowed at cruise speed to simulate this ??
And another thing I do not see many glens lost as ops losses I will have to check next turn and see. As a Jap player mainly of coarse I realise these subs are in game terms a bit too good . Maybe to simulate the limited ability of subs as a base they should have their range reduced to three or two hexes ?
However , I may be wrong the Japs must have thought they were good to look at biuilding the 400 series with three planes each - thats incredible ?

No, the float plane usually launches from a catapult. The CL/CA needs to stop to recover the plane though.

I know they have a catapult to launch . So if they stop they cannot be at full or mission speed . I wonder how long they have to stop for ?
On a side note in my current PBEM in June 43 I have lost the following Glen
33 total
27 Air to Air
4 on sunk subs
2 ops

Carriers also have to steam into the wind to recover. Even if the carrier sustains nearly full speed, the TF advances at about cruising speed. The game doesn't model that.

Actually, it does, sorta. CVs spend op points to launch and recover a/c.

I expect a ship could come to a stop, recover a float aircraft, and be back up to speed within 15 minutes at the most. If not, they would surely have been considered too impractical to use.

IIRC from reading long ago, if the seas are calm they don't even have to stop given the recovery crew is well trained - slowing down might be enough as the aircraft taxis alongside the ship.

Can you imagine that with the wake , the swell at 15kts - Its not possible
i would like to see a picture of that if anyone has it
I think the ship would have tp stop which supportrs my point that FP launceh/ Recovery ( which happens on the same day ) should use ops points

As a sheet of ice - ok
Mid pacific calm is not a lake it still has a swell and a CA makes a lot of wake
