A New BOBII Beta Tester Making a Difference

Hi Matrix customers,

I just want to tell all you guys that I am sorry for putting Hard_Sarge to work on BOBII. He has come to the BOBII Beta Forum and he is making a "major" impact by his skills and knowledge. He is really trying to help the BDG (a freeware group) sort out the BOBII reports that have bugs since forever, I guess.

We are I am afraid taking his time away from this forum but he is just an outstanding tester, sim'er, flyer and one of the hardest workers I have ever worked with on BOBII.

His leadership on BOBII is a significant help to our BOBII and 2.08 quality.

BTW, Sarge is now the new BOBII "Top Gun" as we have never seem anyone shoot down so many BOBII AI (no reloads and hardest setting). maybe if we are nice and he has the time we can get him to document his BOBII shooting/gunnary approach for the rest of us guys. I am sure our BOBII customers would be very interested in how he "manages" all the BOBII features and setting to get his results. My first question is, What kind of stick/controller set up do you have?

I have a Saitek Cyborg 3D, good stick but I tend to find I always apply full right rudder all the time.

Good work on the release so far gents and any gunnery skills would be appreciated massively.

I got a Logitech, extreme 3D pro

for rudder, the game uses engine torge (spelling) the 109 at least was a nasty plane to fly and took a lot of work to just fly it normally, have you tried setting trim ? there are two trim settings in the config

Thanks Buddye

Oddly enough I checked and the joystick my dear wife bought as a replacement is a Logitech extreme 3D Pro. My daughter had luckily destroyed my old thrustmaster. Hmmmn, why does that just sound wrong? No matter!

In any event,I was and am still a rather poor pilot in IL-2,is BOBII any easier/more forgiving in terms of controling the aircraft?

Hi Tophat,

No, BOBII is a full function sim with many options , features, and a significat laerning curve. The A/C are about the same with respect to control but I think landing the Spit in BOBII is a bit harder.

I have Il2 but spend most of my time on BOBII. Maybe some of the other guys will have different opinions.

BOBII is a historical game about the day-by-day (about 3 months) air battle of the BOB.

Thanks for the quick reply! No,I was familiar with the time period of the game.I also am more than a wee tad intrigued by its command level distinctions,at least for the Brits. Is the training tutorial for flying the various birds straightforward and helpful? Or is it a challenge from engine startup?

I'm more at home planning WiTp or Bombing the Reich turns but every so often the urge to get the gun camera view takes over. Just wondering if this game is for me.

Hi agian, Tophat,

BoBII has a feature to play as a LUF bomber gunner and you do not have to fly a fighter.

The fighters can aslo be flown in Auto-Pilot (Control+A).

The game also features A "Roving Camera" feature (alt+V) where you can put you A/C in Auto-Pilot (so the AI if flying it) and step out and use the camera to look aroung/ You control the camera with the mouse and mouse wheel (closer and farther).

You can also play the game in Campaign mode on either the RAF or LUF side. You have the option to fly or not fly (ai does the flying) every mission.

The heart of the game is pretending to fly and command a Squad in the BOB doing air combat against the AI, but you can also do this without flying in the Single Player Campaign.

The training missions help but the game has many Novice features that many use who are not into flying. The novice features turn flying into a piece of cake, IMHO.
