Create a backup or not to create a backup, that is the question

I'm the host of a game that has hung up in the middle of a battle sequence between two other players (France [phasing] and Russia [defending]). One of the players (France[phasing]) upgraded to the beta version, along with the rest of us in the middle of the battle and now the game doesn't appear to "recognize" the battle file his opponent just returned.

If I create a backup at this point where should everyone be? I had advanced to the completion of the phasing player's land movement phase (awaiting the land combat file). Will a new battle file be created for the 2 players or will that data be stored in the backup? Assuming it resets everyone to the point in the game where I (the host) am at should the Russian backup file give him a highlighted area and allow him to redo his first battle move?

Thanks,
Boerwar

If you are not involved in the battle then the backup will throw everyone back to the start of the combat phase. I don't know what would happen if you tried re-using the old battle files, but I wouldn't advise it.

They'll have to refight the battle from the start I think.

Caution: Refrain from using the “create backups” function during a naval or land combat phase. There are known problems (not yet addressed) with sending backup files from both the naval and land combat phases (e.g. units involved in battle may disappear when game is advance to the next player in sequence). If the recently implemented auto backup function is not enough, it is recommended that the host do a manual back up before a land phase where there may be a land combat phase.

Thanks Richard, It appears we've worked through the hiccup for now, but I'll keep the autobackup files in mind and from now on won't advance into a land phase when battles are ongoing.
