Seeking a Japanese opponent for a non-stock PBEM game

I have had WiTP for about a year and a half now and have played the AI and one PBEM stock scenario 5 game in progress. I have read a lot about all the mods and am interested in starting a new game using one of them. As an AFB, I need to play that side (mostly out of loyalty but some out of abject fear of the Japanese production system). That is my only stipulation. My opponent can pick the mod as I have no idea what is in each of them and it is almost impossible to tell from the various descriptions. House rules to be agreed upon but the usuals should be in force (night bombing, invasion of bases/dot hexes only, etc) I don't mind if you have Uber experience - don't mind having my butt handed to me as long as I have fun and learn.

With the exception of a new scenario released yesterday - RHSEBO - the RHS scenarios are described in some detail in the RHS Manual - which is available on the RHS site - or by mail direct.

There is a thread on the development of RHSEBO which is current - and describes the special things done in it - mainly adding or modifying ships. The scenario was rationalized so the Dutch could have a Battlecruiser and two new CL (replacing ancient coast defense ship Soerabaja and the WWI CL Sumatra and Celebes).

I need testing of several scenarios - and I mostly play the Japanese side. RHS offers variations so PLAYERS can have what they prefer:

if you want Shinano as a BB - pick BBO

if you want her as a CV - pick CVO -

if you want a more balanced game - that is a Japan not so weak it must lose for sure within 6 to 12 months - pick EOS

stuff like that.

RHS is a variation of CHS with vastly more detail - and an entirely new map system - permitting you to move "around the backside of the world"

so the Japanese have no clue when or where what will appear?

It also is economically oriented - you must move resources and oil to get supplies and fuel - and these do not appear where you want them - so you must move them too. Ships are now valuable - too valuable to burn - because mostly they are needed to haul things.

It introduced a lot of new kinds of aircraft and units - blimps - heavy transports - submarine bombers - ultra long range recon planes (based on B-24) - even rocket fighters and missiles - more kinds of radar - etc. China was reworked adding mountains, lots of units, and a more modern air force. Russia and India got a lot more units - and special units. Places like New Zealand (and New Caledonia and even Tahita got militia as well). For details - ask questions - on or off the board.

Hello vettim, I am interested in playing the Grand Campaign as Japan. I started one PBEM game and my opponent lost the time available. I work a lot of weekends so might be limited to about 5 turns a week. (Ya, try to tell my wife that!)
I do have the Big B 1.4 mod loaded and would like to use that. One of Andrew Browns maps would be great also. Not sure about the mods el cid just mentioned, a little too much to do there for me at my current experience level.
I am good at whatever house rules you are used to or prefer.

Really looking forward to a PBEM opponent. Switched sides on one of my AI games and seen how easy playing the AI is compared to a human.

Post me back if you are interested and we can get started right away, I also have an email address logged here somewhere. Have a great day, Larry

That sounds great. Do you ant to use the AB's regular or extended map?

Extended seems better for me playing as Japan. A little longer route for your reinforcements and supplies. So whichever you like is fine.
Send me a list of settings and I will start after work tonight. I would prefer to do the Pearl strike so like Dec 7 surprise on. I am thinking I put the settings in and my password then send it to you to do your password. Have only started one PBEM so I am a little rusty. Gotta go now but I'll be back about 6pm eastern.
Really psyched to get a chance to play a human again, Banzai! Larry

I like this set of HR to start:

1)Use common sense(the most important one)
2)Train pilots by attacking real targets...no attacking abandoned bases or supply training
3)Use PPs on Kwangtung/China Command unts that are moved out of Manchuria/China
4)LCU stacking: 30,000 defenders on an atoll and 75,000 max on one hex island
5)No invasions by subs
6)ASW TF max of 6 ships
7)AC stacking: 50x base size +1 (a level 1 base can have 100 ac, level 2 150, etc)
8)AC that transfer greater than 9 hexes must rest one turn before conducting any air operations
9)No naval bombing with B-29s
10) 4E city bombing attacks above 15,000 feet during the day
11)Invasions and paratroop landings only at base/dot hexes
12)No cutting(resetting) land movement of land stacks with small units or fragments of units
13) No city bombing attacks from or against Chinese bases
14) Naval bombardments of hexes in support of troops already present or within 14 days of a planned invasion.

But to allow some more realism I propose the following also. These are to put some historical political context into the game

14. Dutch units may not be moved out of the DEI - not even fragments (They would not have left - period)
15. Phillipine units may not be moved out of the Phillipines (as above)
16. Only Chinese units already assigned to SEAC may operate outside China (politics of china were complex)
17. If the Japanese player invades India, Australia, or NZ, he must have a LCU in every base he conquers at all times. This is a simplified garrison rule. Seen too many AAR's where the Japanese have the Allies pinned in Karchi with the whole of India devod of LCU's. No splitting of units to create a dozen small fragments to accomplish this either
18. Canadian units may only operate in Canada, Alaska, and the Aleutians unless the Japanese invade Australia/NZ. Then Canadian units can be transferred to Australia Command/ANZAC by playing the PP (This gives the Allied player some recourse against a complete takeover of Oz/Kiwiland)

I feel these rules are a nice compromise to make both players be a little less "gamey" . The whole Brave Sir Robin thing of pulling fragments out of the Phillipines/DEI so they can be rebuilt is a joke. Likewise wholesale conquering of large expanses of territory without having to garrison them is a bit unrealistic (Why do you think the Japanese couldn't get anywhere in CHina in RL? You think they would have had an easier time in Oz or India?)

Sounds great. I think the only thing you left out is PT boats. But since you are Allies I am sure I will not see any 20 boat units at a base.
I just need to check with you on the following;

REALISM SETTINGS
FOW - on
ADV WEATHER - on
Allied damage cntrl - on
Hist first turn - on
player def upgrades - on (Not even sure what this does really)
vary setup - off
Dec 7 surprise - on
reinforcements - variable +/- 15 days (or no variable, not sure which you play with)

GAME OPTIONS
combat reports - on
auto sub ops - off
tf move radius - on
plane radius - on
set all facilities to expand - off
auto upgrade air groups - off
accept air and ground reinforcements - off
1 day turns

Those are my usual settings let me know if there is anything wrong with any of them. It seems like you are a little more experienced than I at this. Hope to hear back soon, Larry

Acceptable, on the way. Except not sure how to get it to you. Can I attach it through this sites email message system?
