Did I mess something up!

I've made my own scenario based on #15 and among some of the changes I made was to remove the Sea Gladiators from Hermes and replace them with Sea Hurricanes (and also upped the max a/c # to 8, with 6 initially on hand). I also added a small number of other new squadron sized air units, both US and RAF, and to compensate I deleted 4 AACU, W Flt as well as several Russian AF units.

The problem I've encountered is that when I start the game, FF-800 starts with 6 Sea Hurricanes and TF-800 with 10 S-fish, but after a couple of turns, both units go down to 4 a/c assigned and each has their max number of a/c authorized reduced to 4 as well. This only happens if Hermes is in port or docked at Columbo or at sea with Columbo listed as the home port. If Hermes is at Trincomalee and has that port listed as its home port, I don't suffer a reduction in numbers.

I know there is a limit on the number of air units in a scenario, but is there also a limit on the number of aircraft that can be in a scenario? If so, why would the max number of a/c authorize change as well as the number of a/c currently assigned?

Did you set both the number of aircraft as well as max number to the same. If you leave the max number max blank, it will auto size to whatever the game decides.

You have run into the dreaded carrier resize rule - probably.

A CVL is assumed to have 2 squadrons (by code) - if only one it will resize to 80 percent of defined capacity.

I try to avoid resizing altogether - and I give players units that won't resize to put on ships that have a problem.
This requires some tricky stuff - but I create squadrons that must always be 12 or 15 or 18 planes - and you could do this at other values.

Create a carrier that never appears - date set to 1946.

Assign a naval air unit to the carrier.

ALSO assign the unit a date of appearence IN the game period - and it will appear at the default location for that nation on that date.

Since the carrier never goes to a command port - the unit never changes size - ever. And since it is assigned to a carrier when born - it is able to be assigned to any carrier.

Yes, I set both the number of a/c as well as the max number.

I did change the max number for FF-800 from 6 to 8 and if carrier resize rule is the probable case, I still don't understand why this only happens when Hermes starts the game home ported at Columbo and not Trimcomalee.

I have a gut feel, that some ports are hard coded to perform certain tasks, maybe it based on their original size etc, so that upgrades etc will not be performed at every port regardless of their current size. Maybe the port needs repair pts etc.

I hope that AE makes these things an option, get a warning that its due, do you want it Y/N.

Even PacWar allowed you to decide if you wanted to upgrade an aircraft type.

You may have discovered hard code in the slot. Try changing the class and ship slots.

Resize is supposed to occur only in certain ports (fleet bases) with the theater HQ in them - on certain (secret) dates. So that it happens in one port and not another might make sense - if the HQ is present.
