Hi Himmelstoss,

I doubt it's the cause, but you should still update your video and audio drivers as for Vista there can be a huge difference in stability between 2007 and 2008 drivers.

With that said, I'd guess I would have a good chance of finding the cause if I had the files you were using. Which exact campaign and scenario are you playing?

Can you describe exactly when the crash happens and what you are doing right before the crash? Also, could you post your most current log file from the /Logs sub-folder?

Regards,

- Erik

Another thing you might try is alt-enter to make the game windowed. Like its stable-mate, Advanced Tactics, it will not actually look windowed, but will be as far as vista is concerned (e.g. you can see the screen contents when you alt-tab), and it might help in terms of ctds.

Cheers

himmelstoss, if you downloaded and installed those new GermanDistantOrders.wav files posted by Cougar_DK, I think that's your problem.  I used them and immediately began getting ctds right after the first orders turn started to play (IOW, when those .wav files would've been accessed).  Go back to the original files and your ctds will be cured.  Mine were.

I'm pretty darn sure there are newer ones - check www.nvidia.com.

Thanks, do you by chance have a save file that duplicates this?

E-mail it to me at erikr@matrixgames.com please.

My guess is this is some kind of rare issue as we've played through these countless times including on Vista. Until we figure this one out though, if you can't get past it try starting a different one for now.

Uh-oh. Interesting news. I'll see if I can duplicate that, if so we'll have to take those offline so they don't cause problems for customers.

ok...! thats it, capitain called it.

i have changed the two files of the germandistant and the mouse thing back to normal...and badabing badabang its not crashing anymore.

too bad as i really liked the non clicking noise and the silent germans (hehe).

sry for the upheaval though, but maybe in a patch or so you guys could address it with some on off options.

ok back to my game!

thx guys,

himmelstoss

ps: btw, would that now mean that modders would have a hard time changing sound files or is it just a matter of doing it right (file size etcpp)?

Changing the sound files is easy and safe. Something must be wrong in the mod files he posted. I'm going to take them offline for now if they're causing CTDs.

I did lots of sound mods without issue. I think there might be something in the way Cougar did them that PCK doesn't like (eg wrong bps encoding or freq encoding for example)

Tell me what you want and I will do a sound for it. I don't speak german but can at least turn it off for you.

Sorry guys, I'm pretty sure it is the German/Russian Distantorder files thats the problem. Thanx for finding this and removing them.
