All female regiments in WW2

I watched a documentary earlier today about all female Soviet pilot
regiments. This was fairly new to me since I only knew about female snipers.

From what I read in this webpage they had fairly impressive kill ratios considering what junk they got for planes. Wonder what the same pilots could have done in Messerschmits and similar. The documentary pointed out that while the male pilots were smoking the women loaded bombs.

Now to my question. Did any other side have females in active fighting role? As in, frontline duty?

Btw. Are there any female IL2 gaming groups named after the Night Witches ;).

Hi Marcus,

Thanks for the Info. I didn't know there were any females at arms in WWII.

Was new to me too. Today it's fairly common.

I can imagine Mao using females in fighting roles but I doubt they ever got to pilot planes.

I know that Russian AA batteries engaged German tanks near Stalingrad, and were primarily crew by women. I did not know about the Russian female pilots. Learn something new every day. Thanks for the info.

Actually this reminds be a bit of the black companies that US Army employed during WW2. Before they
were integrated in the regular armed forces. Israel obviously were pioneers in putting females just about
everywhere in the armed forces.

Yes I agree Israel really did pioneer the female thing.

I remember seeing a documentary on tv over here about women serving in Russian tank's during WW2. Can't remember the name of the damn thing now (swiss cheese memory [:(])

I do remember them saying that some women served as tank commanders. Would be very intrested to find out if that was right. [8D]

Personally, I'd love to see the US armed forces have all female units formed. That would solve the problems associated with mixed gender units and reduce the frequent charges of rape and gender discrimination that seems to be a growing concern.

Hope this isn't considered getting political.

Really comprehensive info there. Thanks.

Kind of ironic when you think about it. As much as female
competence in active combat duty has been questioned. Yet they did
some of the most dangerous flying in WW2, in virtual flying coffins (including the US test pilots).

Where do you find women like that? ;).

There is another way of looking at it, basically men are more expendable than women. A country's population depends more on the number of women than the number of men.

You have to be pretty desperate to risk your women in a conflict, due its demographic impact.

But since they are so efficient it might not be a big issue ;).

I wouldn't mind a pilot wife. Gives me something cool to talk about with friends.
