ATR - After Turn Report - A/I Good Move

Hey all,
This is actually an ATR, an after turn report.
I built a template for the L5W map, which included having Tanks setup in woods ... I never thought it would backfire on me!!
Situation :
RBG - Russian Attack / German Defend objective #5 (I haven't labeled my objectives yet)
Explaination of screenshot ...
1. T-34 on right hand side of map (behind oil tank) crosses over river and approaches thru the woods. Note the track histories. This left him 21m from infantry platoon which happened to be HOLDING FIRE ... my fault. The T-34 was facing to the right at end of orders phase. A good chance to try for a side shot from my AT gun (shown dead in bottom left corner).
2. Reaction Phase - I order the AT gun to fire ... T-34 buttons up's (must have seen me) and turns towards me.
3. BLAM-PING ... the AT gun fires and hits the front of T-34 ... no damage.
4. BLAM-CRASH ... the T-34 fires back and misses ... phew
5. BLAM-CRASH ... another T-34 fires from the woods across the river (unseen from before, this was the tank placement in woods template)
6. My AT gun hit !!!! end of story.
Anyway, I thought I'd share this. Apparently the T-34 in the woods (upper left, across river) was covering for the T-34 that ran across and came up out of the woods ... nice A/I move ... that was unexpected. Note, the river is hidden below so you might miss someone crossing, which I did as the T-34 zoomed in.
I'll have to review more on template design and make more Tank-in-woods setup ... the A/I appears to like this [:)].
Wish me luck on the next turn ... my INF platoon 21 meters away is going for an assault ... which I should have setup during the HOLD FIRE in the first place ... doh!!

Also, note the mini-map ... the location of the Russian forces ... the other T-34 platoon rushed to the woods on the north embankment and is leap-frogging across the river... that's sweet!! well, for the russians, not for me.
I rolled one Tiger tank ... I hope I can pick them off ... I already got one T-34 making it's way down the embankment.
They already picked off one of my PIIb's hiding in the woods ... note my forces.

Nice one Rob.
Have you played BC #4 close assault. If not I highly recommend you do as it looks like your gonna need the CA practice.
I would be rushing both of those infantry squads (the ones in the woods and the ones in the house near the oil tank) to try and overwhelm that T34. You will probably lose one but it will be worth it [:)] Look like from the screen shot that you will be shielded from that supporting T34 across the river as well. Although you never do know what else is lurking out there [;)]

Heya Stridor,
No, I haven't tried the boot camp yet, I should tho ... I've been buried in designing stuff ...
I'll take your advice and have a go with both squads ... I'm kind of timid at the moment ... I feel as though in the next phase (ORDERS) the squads will be seen anyway so I'll move fast. I'll let you know and kick up a screen shot of either dead men or a burning T-34 with the TC still in it [:D].

Ok ... I was wrong ... next phase is REACTION PHASE ... so I'm going to set the mood.
The PLAN ... ha!
1. Squad on left (24m from tank) will FIRE and hopefully close assault.
2. HQ squad (in building, selected) is too far from tank (63m), so he'll throw a CBE.
3. Squad on far right (in woods) is going to toss a CBE too.
4. Squad in building (right of HQ) will watch for now ... ready for a rush.
Sound good Colonel Stridor?? [8D]. I'll be waiting sir ... platoon commander out. hehe.

Hmmm, reaction phase hey, hmmm.
Smoke 'em if you got 'em, just don't smoke all of 'em.
I see your 9 squad platoon, what strength settings did you play with? I might need to tone some of them down a bit.

Here are the strength settings for the German : 500 pts, default preset, OP Strength FULL, autumn, 1942, German Defense, Russian attack.
INF - 30
LT VEH - 0
ART - 10
AIR - 10
GUN - 15
ARM - 35
Force Mix :
9 x Regular 42
6 X Regular 41
2 X SS SMG 42
2 x Pak 38
1 x Pak 38
1 x Pak 36
4 x Pz Kpfw IIB
1 x Pz Kpfw VI TIGER I
Ok, back to the battle ...
The left squad assaulted .... no effect.
HQ Squad threw smoke.
T-34 did not react, remained buttoned ... this is good [:)].
Next phase is ORDERS ... plan ...
Keep HQ in building ... rush the right two squads toward T-34 (currently both right squads out of LOS to T-34, should be a covered move).

OP Strength FULL
Yeah FULL will max out infantry. It would be rare to get 9 for germany however (I see your other platoon is 6). For a more authentic experience for germany set strength to operational. Full is like a hypothetical overstock (eg with the Fuhrer imagined, not what was actually delivered). Having said that I will probably tone it down just a little.

Infantry Platoons should 2 or 3 squads, 4 at most... why is 6 or 9 even a possibility?

The 6 or 9 squad formations would actually represent (somewhat depleted) companies. Within the context of the historical scenarios we use larger platoons to represent Soviet companies as a way to limit their command flexibility.

I still can't get my head around that. I just view them as Russian companies rather than platoons.
