Pre-purchase question: number of turns

How does the game feel compared to Winterstorm, concerning the number of turns in scenarios?

In Winterstorm I didn't relly feel I was playing a wargame. The tiny number of turns made me feel I needed to zerg as in an RTS, a genre I don't like because of just that. Sure, we know that there are AT guns all over the place, but what's losing a couple of Tigers compared to attaining the objective 10 minutes earlier? ;) Seriously, an *option* for unlimited turns would have gone a long way, unfortunately I stopped playing after like 3 battles.

Since Kharkov comes from the same people, and it has turns, I am worried that the need to mindlessly zerg will make me quit just as early in the game. So, for those people who didn't like the way Winterstorm made them rush: does Kharkov feel the same?

I hear you. In Winterstorm, as you noticed, we had set turn limits and defender VP bonuses that would accrue after a certain turn. In Kharkov, there is no turn limit and only a few scenarios have any defender VP bonus. In fact, all the re-done and updated Winterstorm scenarios that are included with Kharkov for Winterstorm owners have the time limits and VP bonuses removed.

- Erik

Well, I hope that the new scenario paramaters have unlimited ammo, as well, as I was forever running out of it in the abbreviated versions. [:(]

Well, this is good news. I was really unhappy about the time limits too.
Looking forward to next month when I'll hopefully have time to try this game out.

Thanks, that's what I wanted to hear. Off to buy game now.

How do I go about getting those? I've bought Kharkov, the upgrade offer (CD + download). I've reinstalled Winterstorm from the old CD, into "E:\Games\Panzer Command Operation Winter Storm\". I've installed the downloaded Kharkov into "E:\Games\Panzer Command Kharkov\". Did the latter installation automatically put the updated Winterstorm scenarios into the Winterstorm folder? The Winterstorm forums say that the latest version is 1.12, but when I launch it it still says 1.00 (I'd really like to play the first game with the new scenarios before I start Kharkov).

Or did I have to buy the Winterstorm + Kharkov bundle in order to have the updated Winterstorm scenarios in the new box? I've tried the FAQ but no info in there. The readme is the same as the FAQ. Can't find anything related to Winterstorm inside the Kharkov folders.

Thanks.

You did it right, but the updated content is not in Winterstorm, it's in Kharkov. Since you installed Winterstorm first, Kharkov then saw that it was there and installed updated Winterstorm content into the Kharkov folders. If you launch Kharkov, you should see the Winterstorm campaigns and scenarios in the Kharkov campaign and scenario lists. The only requirement is that Winterstorm be installed first on the same system before Kharkov is installed.
