BootCamp4 spoiler alert

This probably isn't much of an AAR - just some observation on BootCamp4.

NOTE: DO NOT KEEP reading if you haven't played BC4 yet.

Just fired up BootCamp 4. I advanced my infantry down the road and across the bridge, with the halftracks following along behind.

Halftracks hit the mines and I lost my lead HT. The INfantry didn't seem to trigger any mines.

I redirected the Half Tracks to the east where they found a ford to use. then turned them NW back toword the Objectives. In the meantime, I place my Inf. command squad to the west of the road, one squad coming up the road, and the third on the east side. I had them advance in bounds.

When the HT's got to the clear area south of the Orchard I brought them on line then had them advance toward the objective by bounds.

The HT's took out both trucks at around 300+ meters.

That was the only action I saw. I came away with a Marginal victory, but was surprised. I'm guessing there was a time constraint and I simply moved too slow.

I've had a major vicotry, a legendary victory and now a marginal victory - looks like BC4 will hand me my first defeat if the pattern holds.

Rick

I was surprised to see a similar mine reaction on my first run-through of that mission. Guess the Soviets only have anti-tank mines...[:D]

Or maybe they have so much infnatry, they only care about blowing up tanks <g>.

I notice in editor when you create a mine field yuou set it to be either anti-personnel or anti-tank, but if you set one kind you can then create another overlapping one for the other kind I think. So designer could have both. I dont really know what the standard practice was in WWII.

Yes, you can have dual minefields overlapping that affect both tanks and infantry. By design, that scenario only has anti-vehicle/tank mines (but it has a LOT of them!).

Erik,

Is there a way to detect a minefield besides having it blow up under you? Also once you explode a mine under you, does that in any way allow units to detect the other mines better?

Cheers

The current minefields are considered deliberately placed and well-hidden. For the next release we have hasty minefields on the list, which could be spotted before blowing up.

No, but they'll avoid the known mine area.

Thanks for the response. Are there any plans to include in future releases engineers that could possibly scan and/or clear an area that is suspected to contain mines before the vehicles/personnel detect them by blowing up?

Cheers

It would seem like it would have to be a pretty long scenario for that to be realistic. If game turns are only 80sec. Im not sure how much an engineering unit could clear in 20-30 min.

To late, I saw another post about the mine field before I played it. Oh well I guess I lucked out with some extra intel.
