Reverting to Defensive(not moving) after reaching Destination

I took a series of 4 screenshots to illustrate my question/concern. I undertand that if you give a move order (engage - advance - or rush), then when the destination is reached, the unit goes into Defensive (not moving) stance, and doesnt wait for the next pahse to do this.

In the following 4 pics I gave a Rush order and watched the Unit Info description box for the stance the unit was in. Not that the box stayed Rushing thought the order phase, and didn't switch until the Reaction phase.

My question is does it switch internally, and just doesnt update this info in message box?

First of four pics on 4 msgs follow:

(and thanks for this game - really enjoying it)

I just saw a similar thing in a scenario I played.

My platoon of 3 squads were sent to occupy buildings after the previous occupants were killed off.

I directed the squads to rush 2 buildings.  After they arrived at their destination, they remained in the rush mode through one complete turn.  I tried to have them mount (enter) the now unoccupied building. No good.  The next turn, I also attempted to mount the building.  Again, no good.  So I changed the order to defend and tried again to no avail.

Since there were no enemy in the immediate area, I let my squads sit outside the buildings for several turns... every now and then, attemping to mount the buildings without success.

I could see the bodies of the previous "owners" and wondered if there is a glitch which causes the game to think there are live troops in there after they are killed or whether there is a problem with clearing the "rush" command.

At any rate, I will watch this circumstance and see if I can replicate the situation.

I think I have a save which will reveal the problem if it would be useful.

Dunno if this is related, but I've seen my Engage->Move platoon order end up with my 3 squads ending the move in the middle of the first phase without firing a shot and not firing again in the reaction phase.  Even though there was an enemy in LOS @ about 200 range whilst showing red lines for targeting it from 2 of the squads.

I'll have to take a screenie next time that oddity shows up.  Just wondering if there may be something I missed with the Engage Move.

I've seen the same error as Redleg with the "mount" order. The circumstances were the same.

Try saving and reloading the game. Then check their status and if they can mount.

Ok, Rush will not reset to Defend until the end of a phase, if all units in the platoon have reached their destination. Rush is intended for longer distance movements, not for rushing 4 meters or so.

If you realize that you are only needing to move a short distance, why would you choose an order that leaves you unable to fire? I would always use Advance or Bound for short distance movement, or Engage -> Move if only one or two squads in the platoon need to make very specific movements while others provide cover fire.

That really sounds like you found some kind of mount bug. It's possible it could be building-specific and it could that for that building in that situation the casualties were not being "cleared" from the mount points. I would really love to get a save file that shows that in action if you have it.

Engage -> Move doesn't allow the moving squad to fire while it moves at normal move speed. However, it allows you to have a squad moving while the rest of your platoon sits back and shoots at full effect, so Engage is quite flexible as a platoon order.

For example, squads in open ground near a woods get surprised by a more powerful enemy force. Rush to the woods seems the best choice.

If you're only going a very short distance, I would choose a different order, depending on the exact situation. Engage -> Move, Advance, Defend -> Move, Bound and Withdraw may all be better choices than Rush for short distances. Keep in mind also that while moving at Rush speed, units gain pretty much no benefit from cover.

I encountered the exact same thing. It happened in the 1st German Kharkov campaign scenario, and involved only the house in the center, the one closest to the objective flag nearest to the German starting position. I think I even have a save available if that helps more.
