pbem game,vanilla latest version,i'm ally

half april,1942,i tried to surprise my opponent attacking guadalcanal that was the only japan island of the salomon,I was thinking kido butai was away,near india,but...

120 miles south of guadalcanal,my WHOLLY fleet engaged the kido butai!it was an huge battle,i lost hundreds[X(] of aircrafts,the Japan player had about half or 3/4 of my losses,the surface combat TFs fought too

ships sank:

jap: akagi,1 DD

allied: yorktown(scuttled),hornet,1 BB(colorado?),1 or 2 CA,1 CLAA(all sank by aircrafts)

enterprise and lexington are now 20-30 SYS damaged,all my amphibious TFs went back safely to noumea

at least 2 japan CV were damaged but not heavely,i don't remember how much are damaged the japan SC ships

the battle is almost over,in the next turns i'll know more about japan losses


japan has some CVs damaged,has lost the akagi,has lost at least 100-150 aircrafts\expert pilots
this battle will lose time to japan,it's april 1942,the japan should expands now...

it is an allied strategic victory?[&:]

It's not too bad; 1 Jap CV for 2 of yours, but much more importantly, a lot of IJN pilots gone. I'd call it a small victory.

okay, then it´s like as if your enemy has lost another two CVs as his replacement pilots will all be in the 35-40 exp.

not bad. just remember you can get pilots, but not so easily flattops. though the pilots will have to be trained up, you still have them, and the enemy wont have the carriers you sunk...

yes,but i'm a bit happy for this[:D],i won't defend guadalcanal for a long time and i have underestimate the speed of the kido butai,this may will be a massacre for my LCUs,now I understand...



15 april,the battle is ended,losses:

japan: CV akagi,CA katori,4 DD,about 150 aircrafts
CV hiryu heavely damaged

allied: CV yorktown(scuttled),CV hornet,BB colorado,3 CA,1 CLAA,1 DD ,200-250 aicrafts

japan heavely damaged ships may be more(I forgot CV hiryu that was heavely damaged)
i think it is an allied small strategic victory,i'll take guadalcanal when i'll have some good planes\pilots to defend it[8|]

i was wrong,this battle has been fought in march,april is in real life[:D]

so it is better for me



PS an other japanese CA sank while it was coming back towards truk

indeed, remember that sum of these ships may very well sink on their way back to a base. Dive bombers are carrier killers.
