The Dreaded Red Army Infantry

So far I have only played 1 battle as German side.....
But I am having a very good time trying to manage the Red Army. Not easy but very satisfying.
Thanks for the tremendous support in fixing, tweeking, and explaining. This makes the game even better.
Advancing Red infantry by using 2 squads in cooperation. One squad advancing, the other covering and then changing off. Works pretty well in place of bounding. The German infantry is very tough and I find I must get at least a squad targeting in order to handle them.
I am mainly playing generated battles with Soviets assaulting. The few meeting engagements work out well. In general, the AI has handled its troops very well in either meeting engagements or defending against my assault. I am finding a double pronged attack works best for me. I am using 25% infantry, 25% artillery, and 50% armor.
Back to defending the Rodina!

Redleg,
Glad you are enjoying the RBG. Matrix put a lot of effort into it!
I will be adding some more tweaks / abilities to the RBG (targeting more historical platoon sizes) in the coming days.

Stridor. Excellent point about platoon sizes. I believe the situation can be somewhat relieved by using understrength units. That seems to offer up smaller number of squads with the option to fill in with replacements.
Those 9 or 10 squad platoons are murderous when they target the same unit but when they retreat, they really leave a large vacancy in the lines![:)]
Personally, I am gravitating to 4-5 squad platoons for the Red Army.... 4-5 tanks works well but I also like to have some 2-3 tank platoons.... even lonesome tanks so I get more leader units with a change to be in radio contact with artillery assets.
One thing on my wish list....... the ability to load a saved generated battle into the scenario editor for tweaking. That would be a powerful tool.
Regards and thanks.

Redleg,
My plans for platoon sizes will allow a default size which is historical, but also the ability to have presets determine exact values for different "outfits" note that might actually be a russian tank battalion as the platoon. Anyway the important point is that it will be totally configurable and saved as presets. I think it is on Erik's todo list [;)] It was something that was missing from verision 1.0 and I hope to get it out to you in the next few days. If you want to look at editing your own battle plans / presets, I think you will find the RBG can pretty much produce very authentic matchups.
You can load and edit a generated battle in the scenario editor right now. Simply load the "Random" battle from the drop down list.
Grell,
Thanks. Everyone from the team put a lot of work into the RBG, from coding, to suggestions, to battle plan editing, to templates, etc, etc. It was a big job but I think it turned out to be a really flexible product.

You can already do this right now - just generate a battle, then open the scenario editor and look for the "Random" scenario. Then save it as another name to keep it from being overwritten by the next generated battle.

Thanks guys. I somehow managed to mess up putting a random battle into the scenario editor. The tip is appreciated.
Well, back to the front -
