pBEM game issue with Comabt and back up files

Hi,
Hopefully someone can help us out on an issue we are having with a PBEM game;
Its Turkey's go and he has decided to attack two Egyptian Corps in Cairo (controlled by the GB player). He sent the the land phase file and battlefile to the GB player. When the GB player loaded the battle file and clicked on the battle area - it came up with the option to create a battle file, and he wasn't able to pick defender chits and the game could not progress.
As far as I can see the two players have followed the correct procedures for the exchange of files - so cant see what the problem could be.
As host, I created back up files for the two players; Turkey was able to load and re-do his go; however, the GB player could not use his password to get in to the back up file and it was giving him a security violation message.
Any help would be greatly appreicated.
Rgds

I've had issues where a backup wipes passwords, it still prompts for one but accepts just hitting the enter key.

I(Turkey) learned that GB might use a different patch.
I ran a testgame(1.02g) with GB/Turkey as pbm-clients and had no problem exchanging battlefiles, Where GB was using both Egypt corps to defend.
So Egypt using 2 corps should not be the reason for possible bug.
Problem about the password though.

What version are you using?
Try the "G" patch.

Richard is using 1.02G as host, like me(Turkey).
Gb im not sure, he said 1.02X but that it wasnt 1.02G, it was one of those prior.

GB has now installed 'g' but is still having problems getting past the password - its giving him a security violation message
As host is there anything I can do to change his password, or remove the password option? Or do we just have to keep on trying with different backup files?

Can you do that if :
Option Changes During Game:• allows the freedom to change options during play is "
Disabled" ?
If the password is corrupted, could host replace the "corrupted" player ?
Like replace pGB with pGB ?. Just as if when a player quits/leaves the game ?

first thing I tried - but option changes is disabled (damn and blast)
I have tried replacing GB as a player - but there is no option to change the password when you do this, it just creates a new back-up file to send out. So currently I'm a bit flummoxed.

I guess you need to pm Marshall about this

I doubt its intended a game is stuck if a player leaves without passing the password on to the host/new player.
(when option host "allowed to make changes is disabled". If so it sounds like a bug...
Maybe Marshall or someone at Matrix might be able to browse the players save file dat or whatever for password ?
Kind Regards

It would appear you shouldn't use the password option as it can more harm that good just now, I've been in 2 games that hit this unrecoverable password situation now [&:]

This or add into admin function to give password to player.
Seems situation can create a deadlock, if option host not allowed changes + a password that gets corrupted.

My question - why would you ever use passwords in pbem? I really dont get the logic? The password functionality was created for hotseat play as I understand it.
Are people afraid that someone will break into their house and play a game turn wrong? Be superhackers and bypass your firewall and get into your game? Lets get real here.

Passwords make it a lot easier for the host if you need to have a backup, which you will at some point. If you don't have passwords you have to send each file out to each player manually or else they will be able to look at each others setup.
If you have passwords you can zip the whole lot together and chuck them up to a website or email them out and everyone can have everyones' files but will only be able to use their own.
